Legitimate question here, what do you do if your senior is condescending and likes to take credit for work done, but then pushes the blame to you when they forget stuff and are scolded by the partner?

The senior has been working for the partner for some time, so I'm not sure if complaining etc will do any good.

if the senior has been working for this partner for some time, I doubt bringing up your concerns to the partner will make much of a difference unless the partner favours you now. I would look for a new place to head to and get out of the current place

Depends on the type of in house role you are looking at. Most MNCs / SMEs will want someone who is like a jack of all trades. M&A is usually one of the skill sets they look out for.

If you are interested in tech then go look at Fintech and if you prefer the FIs, regulatory experience will be good.

Just be aware that most in house roles require you to go beyond simply being a lawyer and you will be asked to do non-legal work. They prefer commercially minded people and you have to know when to push back against management.

For those coming from litigation background, you should jump to in house ASAP. Litigation exp is not commonly sought after. There are some roles, but these are hard to come by and it's usually easier to jump in when you are more junior.

is it true that the only way the industry will become better is for the supply of law grads to drop?

That's what law graduates get when they looked down on CS as a nerdy degree and think they are too cool for CS. Now the nerds are making big money while enjoying work-life balance. Meanwhile, assocs' pay are being depressed and their working hours are no different from a garment sweatshop.

I'm a law graduate and I envy my friends in CS who are living the life of money and work-life balance, like boomers in the 70s and 80s.

Exactly. Law is not a place for new grads, but those who have alr established themselves here.

CS grads get good work life balance and salary without the hassle that a lawyer has to go through
