Your HR will ask you to pay it back directly. Otherwise you will owe it as a debt to the firm and interest will be charged -> check your firm's employment policy. I have heard of cases where the partner will be nice and waive the amount. It differs from firm to firm. But I doubt it will happen where you're leaving right after call. That's basically just rejecting retention.

i think i'll sit on it for a few more days before deciding since i'm not exactly the most disciplined person. thanks for your input - i do like to be quite thorough about my readings (most of the time) so that's definitely something to consider
Yeah you should think about it carefully. Also starting at this point seems kind of late... There's less than 3 months to the exams and you will obviously need more time in november.

I know I shouldn’t feed the troll but honestly feel that doing up an American J.D. (Harvard or not) is an utter waste of time and cash unless of course you’re on a full ride scholarship but still, spending 4 + 3 years just for a law degree seemed irrational in my opinion.

Also please don’t feed me with the prestige crap cuz an Oxbridge law degree gives you the same effect at a fraction of what you would spend in total for any American J.D.

If you're working in Singapore, sure. Fully agreed.

But if you're comparing their respective markets, the amounts you get from being a law firm parter in New York or Chicago shits all over the London MC firms. I would do it if I was a girl -> the 7 years coupled with NS is way too long, but I would totally do it if I could get it done by 26.

I heard one big4 is retrenching and other haven't been quick to offer retentions. Hearsay tho - others who know, pls share.
Hi can anyone share how retention usually is in the Corp departments of Big 4 + Baker? Which one has the safest retention rates/which ones want to drop-kick you out asap

OP pls provide specifics. Obviously, "one big4" isn't helpful and doesn't add any value. Tks.
