Hi seniors,

I'm a rising Year 2 from NUS Law.

My grades are above average, but being extremely introverted, I fear that I'm not cut out for practice. Will this be an issue?

I've been toying with the idea of switching majors.

What does your introversion prevent you from doing? If it's a fear of public speaking, perhaps litigation may not be your thing, but there are other options within the industry. If you're just disinclined to social interaction, you're no less disadvantaged than you would be in any other field. You need to overcome it (to an extent) to develop some necessary skills as a working professional. I'm sure there are plenty of successful introverted lawyers.

If there's another major you think you might prefer, then I think you already know the answer.

Would someone like to share what are some practice areas suited for introverts in corp? Which are some of the practice areas for extroverts in corp?

Yeah. If it isn't a phobia of public speaking you'll be fine. Everyone gets nerves, introvert or extrovert.

While your question was about practice, it's also worth pointing out that you may face problems when you go for training contract interviews in your third or fourth year.

On top of introverts not being naturals at interviews, be warned that there could be firms and interviewing partners out there who look out for introversion as a potential character flaw, and may view your ability to fit in with suspicion.

Having said that, you can get around this by putting in effort into rehearsing for the interview and learning how to come across as more charismatic and likable.

Intoverts... all areas of corp. Unless you're a major antisocial introvert

Just conclude every case with 'if the glove don't fit you must acquit'.
