From the epidemic, I realise most big corporations and banks tend to engage big 4s instead of the international firms in SG. I wonder if it’s more cost effective for them since they’re paying lower rates for same quality/speed of work.

Quite ironic that you call it selection bias.

Let me give you an example so you understand what selection bias is. Are Singaporeans rich? Are the average Singaporeans richer than the average guy from Country X? Yes.

Oh but I know many rich guys from Country X. Does that change the empirical fact that the average Singaporean is equivalent to the top 10% of Country X? Nope.

Why did you select the top 10% then? Selection bias.

Second. Do successful persons from a delisted school in Country X work in Country X? Yes. Let's take your assumption that working at Firm Y in Country X is an indicator of success. Is there a reason why persons from Country A do not work at Firm Y in Country X? Yes.

This is because they don't live there you moron
Do you even logic? When you make a comparison obviously you must compare things objectively as a whole, not just take a subset of something as representative of the thing in its entirety.

The fact is that its not such a cut and dried matter of which uni is better than the other. Are delisted grads facing worse prospects than local grads in SG? Yes. But are they also able to outdo every local grad and work in London? Also yes.

Don’t feed current/future uni students this kind of misinformation because of your blind NUS pride. They deserve to know how things really stand.

I think it's worth for young lawyers these days to explore employment opportunities in Hong Kong, which is a much bigger legal market than in Singapore. I have a couple of friends who have done that.

Yes, international firms in Hong Kong are quite open to Singaporeans. Worth approaching a few recruiters to check out that market.

s://.hklawsoc.org.hk/pub_e/memberlawlist/mem_foreignlawyers.asp is a list of Singapore qualified lawyers presently practicing in Hong Kong.

In the meantime, when the market is down, no harm boosting one's CV with additional admissions in New York / UK.

Before last year.... I would have agreed 100%, no questions asked.
After the protests (nothing to do with covid) and the new security laws coming into force soon....i have doubts as to whether this is still a good idea.

Right now, i'm leaning towards no.
