Lawyers in government:

K Shanmugam
Indranee Rajah
Edwin Tong
Desmond Lee

Latest is Edwin, proving that you need to come from Raffles JC (minimum) to have a fighting chance of a post in cabinet if you go down the lawyer track.
Obviously if you get 2:2 and below you’re quite stuck /bad shape in any case.
But other than that I see that with 2:1 and above (from NUS or Oxbridge), and with a raffles pedigree, you stand a good chance in cabinet.

I agree with you. But I would say 2:2 is very important because we are graded in a curve. If there is no lousy and sub par people then there can never be 2:1.

So those in 2:2 and non elite jc. where should they go?

I guess it doesn’t matter right. A 2:2 is a 2:2.
Once u get a 2:2, don’t think you can go anywhere else (probably end up in smaller firms).
Big four once a while if you have connections or other extra strength (maybe you are a top mooter). Other than that, once a 2:2, forever a 2:2.

Same concept right. The reason u can go RJC, is cos you eliminated so many others at O Levels / PSLE (for through train). Same.
At every stage it is a rat race. If u lose, means u lose.

No more glut. The last batch from the delisted universities graduated in 2017.
If you’re year 2-3 currently in NUS, you’re just competing with SMU, and a limited no of overseas universities.

TC does not guarantee you will be retained..... Please go check on the retention rate rather than the rate for getting TC.

2:2 also can goes Big 4. Almost 50 percent is 2:2 in nus

so 50 percent are doomed?

Every stage is a competition. The best survives.
Isn’t it the same for PSLE, O and A Levels.
Same for universities. If it doesn’t matter, why bother grading people then?
Look at cabinet - a lot of them are top/ valedictorian etc

So? That doesn’t mean everybody wants to be at the top, enter big firms, go top schools, and be a politician minister right?
