I think that all those people expressing faux-politically-correct outrage online are being hypocrites.

Lawyering is a prestigious profession, so being always on, and on-call 24/7, is a basic requirement that one should have been mentally prepared for when he/she put their name on the law school application. Clients' demands have increased, but there's no reason why our spirit of excellence and turnaround time cannot similarly rise to meet those standards, especially when they are paying top dollar for our services and we are handsomely remunerated for it. The client is always right.

In short, you knew what you signed up for in this profession.

I hope our prestigious, market-leading and award winning local firms like Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP and WongPartnership LLP can similarly provide such incisive guidance to the next generation of young impressionable lawyers.

As a midlevel Big 4 lawyer, I certainly wish that someone had shared these pearls of wisdom with me way back when I was a baby lawyer. To all my Big 4 juniors out there, you're in the big leagues, which is a privilege, so act like it.

Agree?
the way u spell out the firms' names in full like u just looked them up on acra makes me feel like u might not be who u say u r.

you are mistaken. That is another firm that does cutting edge wall street work with their market-leading TC allowance.

Anyone know what the NQ salary is like for MC (think A&O, Links) for an EW-qualified lawyer? Have a TC and was wondering if NQ is the same as London rates.

MC pay in UK is generally £107.5k (S$178k) - £125k (S$207k). But bear in mind the taxrate in the UK is 45%, while in SG is capped to 22%.

On that note, I see many people claiming SC NQ salary in Singapore is $10-12k etc, whereas I've heard from the grapevine that it's closer to $7.5-8+K. Can anyone give any clarify on this?

Sorry, meant to ask MC NQ in Singapore, as my TC is a UK TC (come from a UK Uni) but with a view to qualifying (as an EW lawyer) into the SG office. Hence I was wondering if I would be paid the same as a UK associate, in which case my take home would be higher here due to lower effective tax.

My understanding is that there are some variations in the pay for MCs in Singapore. They're not as consistent and transparent than in the UK. Some MCs are notably high - CC for example as can be seen in their materials, but some MCs offer lower pay.

That being said, if you're offered a UK TC, I've seen people choose to work in the Sg office after qualifying as a UK solicitor after their 2 year seat rotations. So, I don't see why you would choose a SG MC TC over your UK MC TC.

Jumping on this question - anyone know what the salary would be like for junior associates at US firms? Would it be Cravath? Starting my E&W TC soon at a US (V20) firm in London, thinking about coming back to SG a couple of years after qualification.
