is there any chance that when u resign even after the bonus is credited into your account,the company can retrieve back the bonus?
Hear a story of a past employee that he resign a few days after receiving the bonus into his account. My company managed to get back the bonus.

********. Don't listen to nonsense from your other colleagues who don't know what happened and made stories up. Did you confirm with the guy who quit? If it's a year end bonus paid out fair and square, there's no way the company can get it back. In fact you're welcome to resign immediately after you receive your bonus letter and the company still has to pay you.

check with your HR. for my company at least, there is a clause in our bonus letter stating that should we quit before xx date, we will need to return it. better be safe than sorry.

********. Even after you receive your bonus letter, your company has every right to not disimburse bonus payment to your account. This is entirely up to the company's discretion. This part of the legislation is not governed nor protected by ministry of manpower. Unless the company has go back on its words of not compensating you your monthly salary, allowances, or shortchange you, the variable bonus portion is not covered at all by the ministry.

The definitive word here is that it is a bonus is based on employment contractual relationship and some companies(mainly banks) practice claw back (esp after the last financial crisis ) of bonus upon resignation.
Agree with poster below this bonus is usually not covered under employment act but there can be unions etc for some salaried workers ... esp if you are airline pilot, union very powerful ! ha ha..

then its safer to leave in May.. you just wont get your mid year bonus if there's any. but usually performance bonus is higher than mid year bonus.

It is not just what is stated in your contract with the company but you also need to note what the current company policy is, regarding bonus payment and resignation date.
For eg., I have worked 30 years in this particular company and whatever contract terms there were regarding bonus payment and resignation have all but changed at the discretion of the company. Some for the better, others worse.
It used to be that as long as the bonus was paid to us, we could resign. Now, the terms were changed such that we cannot resign within the bonus month or the bonus paid will be recovered from us.
