Therefore, I think it is more than just this 'useless' degree you referring to that I am unable to secure a job - Yes, Im lacking in relevant work exp (most bank nowadays want min 1 year than entry level).

In regards to your second question, I have a diploma in Biotechnology. But I want to ask you that if I removed my 'degree' in my resume, how do I explain the 3 years time gap that is going to be missing?
That's bad, I thought at first yours was a part time degree.

If that's the case then really no choice just keep applying lor.

That degree itself is rather useless. You admit yourself that your friends got the jobs not because of the degree, but rather they got temp work and manage to network and know the people inside.

Better start broadening the type of jobs you apply for, I doubt you are going to get a proper perm banking job with zero exp and that kind of degree.

The other way is to go for temp/contract jobs in the banks. These banks outsource such jobs to agents like Kelly Services, GMP, Addecco, Recruit Express etc. Will need to settle for lower pay ~1.8k, but at least you have job and some relevant experience.

Just keep pumping applications. If after 6 mths still no job can consider removing the degree from CV and apply for diploma jobs. Is ur diploma technical or non technical subject?
Seriously, I don't think that degree (SIM-UOL - BSc Banking and Finance) is useless as you mentioned.

Thank you for the kind input. I feel that the degree or rather the quality of the degree is important only for the first job, which is why I am unable to get shortlisted purely on this consideration. If you have got some experience, nobody cares where u come from, as it doesn't show your work productivity (demonstrated by my uol friends).

And yes, I been trying to broaden my work choices (other than banks), as getting employed in the market is more important than remaining jobless for a long period of time due to constant waiting for a preferred employment. I been also trying out agents like I said earlier, but well again there are no follow up probably due to 0 work related experience.

Therefore, like many jobless people here, there is only 2 choices - to wait or to seek part time jobs which im trying as well.

I am thinking.. so many people here jobless yet newspaper reports say that job industries are desperate for people. supply is more than demand. if many resume have been sent out but no response, is it because the format of your resume is wrong? or perhaps you are trying to apply for a business role but resume link towards engineering.

You believe what is stated in our 154th ranked newspaper. Really?
The only accurate info I would believe is the date/day stated on the top right corner of the newspaper.

Try quitting without a job and then send out the resume/CV. The applicant would be in for a rude shock.

With reference to your questions, there are mainly 3 reasons why there are no response when people send resume:

1. You applied for a job where you did not meet requirements or qualified for
2. Your salary expectations is too high (above the hiring budget set by co)
3. Your resume is poorly done

And in regards to the above, I fits all the criteria above. 1) I even applied for diploma level position which I am overqualified 2) My salary expectation is not high (low 2k's) 3) My resume is vetted by several professionals, including a Hr manager and a friend's friend who is a lawyer.

Therefore, i strictly believe that while there may be jobs for experienced personnel, there are NOT ENOUGH jobs for entry level (aka fresh graduates).

To make it in point, you can also see how flawed the jobs bank are - People are able to view the jobs without log-in with singpass. There are also no governance in relation to the application process - Employers could wait for the advertisement period to be up, and then declared that there are no singaporeans willing to take up the position, as printed in the papers. (You can see it in the jobs banks thread where many people said the status is always 'new' or 'process' or 'shortlist' but there are no calls)

Sometimes, you just have to think whether what you have seen with your own eyes are the truth, or what the 'facts and figures' are in the papers which lead you to believe are real.

Have you try seeking assistance from your SIMGE career services? No harm giving it a try.

Some industries really need ppl. For e.g., f&b, retail or contact center but would you ever wan to get in ? Nowadays, firms are smart enough to filter out who trying luck and who really have the interest to work for them for long.

btw i just accepted an offer after jobless for seven months. Luckily pay offer is much higher than my previous pay. The advice is never quit a job first if haven found a new job, unless no choice.
