There seems to be some serious disparity between what the news keeps reporting as well as the government budget to "save" jobs, vs the reality on the ground where no jobs have even been lost?
The most hardhit industries are retail, aviation and hospitality, whereas sectors that are not as affected includes finance and tech.

May I know which indsutry are you and your dad in?

Unemployment is not blanket throughout industries

I know of people personally who got retrenched due to COVID. When we say it's due to COVID, it's because the companies are unable to sustain the same number of employees, and as such, have decided to let some go. Some of them have been in the same job for up to 43 years, some less. But it's very real, and very troubling.

Default FOUND A JOB - Total almost 8 months unemployment

Went for many interviews since Feb 2020 and was either ghosted by companies who said they will move me to the next round and disappeared or had companies that really wanted to push the salary down to a ridiculously low level, especially statutory boards and companies related to ministries. In between I have been told that there is headcount freeze and midway through the interview process particularly during the start of circuit breaker. Then as the position was readvertised. I reached out directly to the HR and was told the readvertisement was automatic on job boards like LinkedIn Glassdoor etc. Further dashing hope that there are jobs available.

Held out cos financially I was okay and staying with my parents due to covid as I had to run errands and do the marketing for them as they are elderly and have rented out my apartment at a higher than market rate during covid to stranded workers on a short term basis.

While interviews took place over video conferencing over 2 months, the wait for a verbal offer is 3 weeks from last interview and the written offer another 5 weeks. That's 8 weeks plus post interview. Really stretching my patience a little.

Thank God the written offer finally came through after such a long delay. Expected to start ASAP as I have heard horror stories of friends who have quit their jobs and before starting new job had the offer rescinded and the company paid the notice period (probation notice period of 2 weeks) and call it a day. Making them stuck in a bad place with no jobs.

Please don't give up. I think I applied many many jobs with no call backs for a long time. Please press on.

This was me and the offer was rescined after 3 days.

Just an update. After 2 months of full time job hunting experience and COUNTLESS interviews and hundreds of hours prepping for interview. I FINALLY GOT AN OFFER AND SIGNED IT!!!! 25% more than the job offer that was rescinded in 3 days.

I am honestly considering being an interview coach at this stage. Since I have hundreds of hours preparing for interview. Anyway just wanted to share the good news and keep everyone's hopes up.

Look at Tamasek Holdings middle management - s://i.imgur.com/vs2V9rjl.jpg

FTs have to do jobs sinkies don't want to do, like bankers, doctors, lawyers, consultant, software engineer.

Meanwhile sinkies can be their own boss, be hawker, grab food and drive grab, and serve the nation to do NS!!

Actually the vast vast majority of practising lawyers in SG are Singaporeans.

Look at this jelly salty boi.

I personally am against FTs with questionable credentials (looking at you Ramesh).

Aside from the obvious selection bias made by this hate-mongering post, those FTs are well qualified for their roles, we have HBS, INSEAD and IIM (India’s NUS equivalent)

Sinkies aren’t really struggling today lah. Those who bicker about not securing middle-management level in banks it’s cuz they’re not cut out simple. See lah, tell y’all study hard and do well in NUS BBA or other target unis duwan right?

My batchmates in uni all doing pretty comfortable what. Where got disadvantage?

kyc professionals please do advice thank you
during this period its extremely hard to go into a different role without prior relevant experience. the job market is flooded with job applicants. doesn't make sense for them to hire you if there are so many other candidates who have more experience than you. even for internal opportunities, they will look at external hires first if these people have relevant experience and asking for pay that's within their range.

anyone still struggling to find jobs after a very long time? it's already been past 1 year for me. getting more and more dejected.

the last interview i went to was in March just before the covid. Hiring froze for 3 mths and not much job posting during that period.

Resumed job hunting in july and no replies so far. also coming to 40 soon in a few years, can't help but feel this is the end.
