Many deg grads can't reach 10k within 10 years after graduation!

10k salary in 10 years in pte sector is common for deg grads, many have shared their experience and market research done by 3rd party consulting firms also indicate that.

Just that many ppl when they see info showing others are paid more than them get very defensive by accusing others of lying or cook up conspiracy theories about how the research firms outside are in cahoots with each other to fake the numbers.

I think it is over-generalisation to say that most deg grads earns 10K salary in 10 years for all industries in the pte sector. Yes it is common for mid 30s grad to earn 10K but those are grad who are doing relatively well, definitely not most grad. When we say most, we are talking about majority (say > 80%). I think most are at 6-8K. Maybe only 1/3 get more than 10K a month.

Poor argument there to support your claim. I agree that it is not difficult to find ppl earning more than 10k after 10 yrs, but those ppl are definitely not the majority.

Depends on which university.

NUS/NTU/SMU or higher class foreign uni grad reaching 10k (mid-low manager level) within 10 years is average, but if you include others like SIM, Curtin, Monash, MDIS and all the other part time degrees that people buy then the average will get dragged down by them.

I won't say this isn't true, but it is probably dependent on the job that you are doing.. $10k within 10 years is something that is definitely not common..

I actually think the 10k with 10years experience is definitely attainable for many graduates, regardless of field.

I think there is too much generalisation in terms of where the degree is from, etc; local degree vs. sim/mdis, or the specialisation of the degree.

I dare say that as long as a graduate is capable and determined, >10k within 10 years is a given.

Correct me if i'm mistaken.

The prob with a lot of engineers is they get stuck at technical level and unable to progress, ie still doing entry executive jobs even after many yrs.

Common problem like poor biz com skills, dont know how to negotiate, bochap politics, marveric punk behavior, poor leadership skills prevent them from moving up to leadership positions where the money is. The PRC & Indian FTs may have lousy technical skills, but they are more rounded skills so end up a lot of them get promoted to the plump jobs
1) 10k in 10yrs for MOST grads: I think you are grossly misinformed.

2) There are very limited career advancement opportunities in Singapore for engineers who would prefer to stay on a technical path.

3) Managers of engineering projects need to have solid engineering experience to move up fast and to prevent being "eaten" by your clients and subordinates - the engineers.

4) I know of several cases where the FTs you mentioned are norminated for promotion simply because their bosses are also FTs from the same country.

For those who manage to hit 10k, will they hit 20k in another 10 years? Or is 10k already near the earning limit and it's all downhill from there?
