Default salary ceiling

Salary ceiling does not affect promotion.

Promotion is based on performance and the potential to take on responsibilities at the next level.

If you have hit the ceiling, you just stop getting increment for as long as you are in that sub grade.

Then again, at lower grades, or BT, officers are expected to have CEP of GEO 5 so long as you are not intending to hold appointments. ie just ordinary teachers. Your years in service, Sub grade, performance and some other factors will determine how fast you get to GEO5...

not too clear about the some other factors too...bottomline is, its not straightforward.

One consideration for promotion is based on yr readiness to take on jobs at a higher level.

EP is a measurement of where u will eventually reach before your retirement. Performance grade is NOT the sole indicator (esp. when nowadays ranking is relative). What drives yr CEP is how well you perform in the responsibilities given to you, and the impact u have made, both within dept, across level / sch-wide. If you're GEO 2 / GEO 3, T&L should always be the main focus. Once you hit GEO 4 and above, mentoring / developing others professionally will come into play. Hence the bulk of C- & Ds will usually be from these sub-grades, because some got promoted way too fast and they are not able to meet the demands / KRAs at a higher sub-grade.

If you wanna bang table bang chair and demand to know your CEP, in a matter of time, I think your RO will relent and tell you. BUT I would advise you against it. Just do your best, and let the system take care of itself.

You don't need to know your CEP to get a sense of how your career is progressing (or not). Just compare yourself to similar-profile officers who came in around the same time as you.

Intranet has rather clear explanation on CEP - it's not a matter of preference, but CEP may change along the way - due to changes in priorities along the way etc.. what's impt is that if an officer wants to be stretched, he should sound it out to the RO, who can then bring it up to the SLs to see if there are some projects he can lead - and if the officer has proven that he's able to value-add to the projects under his charge, that's when the CEP can be adjusted upwards accordingly. Then again, if one is looking at ST-ship , the responsibilities will be geared towards developing / mentoring others.

Thanks for the info. For promotion from Geo 4 to 5 is basically just an increase of about 300.

Actually, it is stated on the appraisal guideline not to reveal CEP to the JHs.

Not just performance grade. Other factors also play a part - such as the number of years in service, years in grade, whether you have outstanding disciplinary issues hanging over your head, and whether your RO perceives you to have the required 'stamina' to persevere through the ranks.

I checked on 1st April and there was a 200 increase in my gross salary with no change to the base min max.

Checked today and there is a another 300 increase(total 500),but the base salary range in still the same.
The lowest base range is $3515.
Would anyone have an idea of the geo4 salary scale?

Cheers!
Can't remember the lower range. But the upper range is $7k I think.

Also, to quote previous old post:
Yup the numbers look about right - at least for GEO4, GEO5 and SEO1.

If you're near the ceiling of GEO4 and SEO1, the promotion to the next higher grade (i.e. GEO5 and SEO2) may not be worth it in the short-run. I think it's actually possible, in the first year of promotion, to receive a lower annual pay compared to the preceding year in the lower sub grade.

Yes, true. Because it is harder to score during ranking with a higher subgrade.
