NSman here, my first trained posting started in June 2017 and was confirmed to service in June 2018. My 'CONNECT Year 4' payout was paid in December 2021.

So I guess it counts? Is connect year supposed to start from NIE graduation, or from confirmation year?

So, you finished your practicum in June 2018?

I think they count the yrs only if you are a trained teacher in the force for the complete whole yr so in your case, 2019 seems to be the 1st yr

Not so easy sometimes with bosses, colleagues, students able to text you even after you leave work about urgent matters

Sometimes it's colleagues who spoil market. I have younger colleagues who are damn free to reply students' and even parents' texts at 11pm, or Sundays. It gradually becomes an expectation when people get used to being able to text teachers for trivial things 24/7. Suddenly, protecting one's own off-work hours makes you look lazy or uncaring.

Anyone else's sch leaders explicitly expect teachers to mark exam scripts over weekends? As in, they explicitly say that the total number of days allowed for marking before the cockpit deadline includes weekends?

Bloody rubbish that some exams are held on Friday but the internal cockpit deadline is the following Monday and they have the cheek to say that we have 3.5 days to mark.

Does your school practice common marking? This is not a norm, at least not that I know of. When setting deadlines, KPs will usually flag out such concerns and adjust the duration given to teachers to ensure that marking and keying in of results can be done accurately.

Damn sian now. The GEO3 teachers that are just out of BT-ship are actually catching up in pay. SEO colleagues are widening the gap even further.
I feel you. Ive gotten A for the last three years and the increment was peanuts. As an appointed HOD, I am still at geo 5, 4 years and counting. The 5% increment is another blow. While the non-appointment holders have geo 5A to cushion the cruel decision, KPs at geo 5 can only swallow it.
