For those who have left the accounting profession, do you all agree? That the value of the accountancy degree really shines when one works in related but not direct profession?
Like finance, consulting or even law?

Why sometimes can see Big4 audit partners leave Big4?
Cannot justify their salary and time cost? Cannot meet billable hours?

I see A level students need to take A level in order to go in NTU
I see accounting poly students need to hit 3.7 gpa in order go in NTU
I see NTU graduates 3 to 4 years duration course
1 semester like got so many modules to do. At least 4 modules? At least 7 modules?
Sorry hour...I not NTU one. So I guessing nia.
Then 50% 70% of their modules like not relevant to audit procedure and financial reporting and taxes
I see ACCA student did 14 papers gao dim liao and go mid tier work as audit associate then work his her way up to audit manager
Like this audit job also no need a person who did so many NTU modules lor ..........
Study what A level lah
Study what NTU degree lah
Go what use?
Lol
1 x ACCA = 14 papers = gao dim liao

Bro.
Individuals with both A-levels plus an NTU degree and those with ACCA certification can potentially obtain similar positions and pay in audit firms.
While A-level/ NTU graduates bring a broader educational background, ACCA-certified individuals have specialised expertise directly relevant to auditing.
Both paths offer opportunities for career advancement, but the choice depends on individual preferences and their career goals.

My advice is to just put your resume out there and don’t limit yourself to just accounting/finance/fp&a roles.

If dont limit myself to these roles, should I aim higher and get even better paying jobs like IB S&T and PB?
My uni gpa is 3.5 can I still try and break into high finance?

First of all, accounting as a profession is so underpaid (excluding CFOs and Finance director levels). Went for multiple interviews requesting for an expected salary of 6k and I was genuinely surprised by the number of accounting roles not being able to meet this salary. Really made me wonder how the govt dares to talk about making accounting an attractive profession again when the remuneration for these roles are like that. At the end of the day, a starting level compliance role was able to meet this salary expectation like ???
Secondly, I would like to call out the workplace culture of not just the B4, but most accounting related departments. It sincerely feels like exploitation of the naive fresh graduates who are likely at their first full time job, making them handle excessive workloads and OT. This culture is then brought to the finance departments in commercial firms by those who leave B4 (based on my personal observation of audit clients). Personally, this is worse than being slightly underpaid. We have audit managers essentially gaslighting staff and seniors into retracting resignations just using the idea of “faster-growing salaries”. Then again, this method works well on us fresh grads in our first full-time role. By the time I was firm on moving out of audit, I was already quite burnt out and not even looking forward to a new role.
In my experience, it was a little disappointing that I had to move on to a role that is less accounting-related, given I spent 3 years in audit just to obtain a professional accounting cert. (Has anyone seen the SCAQ ad on Instagram that promotes their cert by saying “Do the best for your children, Build Their Future”? Like wtf🤡???) However, if I get a chance in the future, I’m open to the idea of going back to accounting roles if the payscale can match up to other roles and no more of that toxic workplace environment.
Thanks for reading to the end and feel free to share your experiences as well. Really enjoy reading this forum apart from the quarreling parts.
Jiayous,
an ex-auditor😬

Should just stay and become big 4 equity partner where money is in. Easily 300-600k p.a, which is good for an average Joe

Do u mind sharing the salary? Is it really much higher than audit 2nd year senior? Worth the effort to study AML laws?

How you justify your 300K p.a.
What is your charge out rate?
How u bill your hours?
How u justify your salary during off peak season?

Yes. If ISCA sign MRA instead of RMA with ACCA, then you have to take the SCAQ IBS 4.5 hours exam
Ok what better than 5 papers
