This question I ask myself a lot when i was A1
Actually bigshot syndrome can start once anyone become S1, they think they become reviewer and allocate out, sit back shake leg
if AM ask A1 to do, they do.
You think M will review work allocation of the AM? Got chance the M book the AM cos they know each other and instructions are to ask A1 do everything, if dunno how to do can ask AM.
Genrally, life of associates is...
A1 won't dare offend S1 becos S1 suckup to M, M won't hear A1 problems and will think A1 is difficult to deal. So the A1 promotions rely heavily on what S1 tells M.

If you ever notice, those mgrs that love to hide in big4 office and don’t dare to meet client f2f are the ugly, fatty, socially awkward ones. Those yandaos/chiobus where got hide in office one. They more than eager to network with their client to find job hopping opportunity. Sad to say the higher the rank, the lesser the number of yandaos/chiobus in this field.

If you stay and are not incompetent, the A also can become the M eventually.
My observation is the As who stay are the ones who can adapt to such a culture, so it’s a cycle where the A become the new M.
Lol.

Managers don’t get leadership training one.
They’re just people like you and me who stayed 5 years and got promoted.
No need to think of them as special.. in a few years I also will become manager.

and to add, many of them stay because cannot find jobs outside so you get the really cmi ones as manager, good ones already poached by other companies.
that's why sometimes u see ur client ex big 4 finance managers 10x nicer than your audit manager
