It depends on what you want.
If you just want to climb the corporate ladder and be a team head / mid-senior management by a certain period, MO/BO can offer you that too.
Those who went local IB despite the deal flow and pay obviously have something else in mind that they want to get to.

Hello, is it possible to pivot from risk into IB/ trading. I did learn some stuff such as basel III and risk weighted asset technicals from my stint in risk.

Nope tough luck buddy. Based on experience IB prefer to hire fresh grads at analyst level as they are younger and can do more grunt work
Once you do another job you’re pigeonholed - unless you’re willing to start fresh from a year 1 analyst. But as mentioned if they have to choose a year 1 analyst between you and a fresh grad from Wharton / havard first class bo ours with relevant internships, you know what the answer is

is there a large difference between desks and tier of banks (e.g. GS/JPM/MS vs BNP/Nomura/HSBC)?
