Why are u even speculating here. Just go apply for the job and try to get an offer. Govt agency pay structures are based on formula with not much chance to negotiate unless you are specifically head hunted by senior management of the agency.

Don't bother going around thinking / speculating, other people can get this rate, I should be able to get this as well. Just go and apply and interview and get an offer. U will have your answer then and there.

There's no guarantee of promotion and you will be stuck at the salary band.

Most fresh grads in Ministries are on the MX scheme, which pays around 4.5k for males with FCH now. Under the MX scheme, there's a slight premium of about $100-200 for the more important ministries like MTI, compared with MSF etc. Some of these ministries also have specialist schemes for the high-potential officers (for e.g., MTI officers who do well can convert to the Trade Specialist scheme after a few years).

The range for specialised roles is naturally much broader. The MFA FSO scheme pays almost 6k these days to male fresh grads, from what I heard.

almost bit ceiling and still got room for progression??? quite contradicting. accept it if u want stability and ok with zero increment for a few years after confirmation.

Your current compensation is already impressive. What are your reasons for wanting to switch to public sector?

Best guess is you want worklife balance because you are probably overworked right now.

You can get the worklife balance in public sector if you agree to a paycut. Because it is highly unlikely any ministry will match your current pay.

On the normal generic MX scheme, you will only draw close to your current in a MX10 role (i.e. Senior Asst Dir or Deputy Director). I don't now about your current WLB, but a senior role comes with it certain expectations and responsibilities (always-on, some weekends etc), and it also varies from place to place, so its hard to tell whether you will have better WLB with a switch.

However, you mentioned you are in tech, which pays a premium. So if you go to Govtech for example, you will be able to hit your current pay at a MX11A grade (Asst Direct)
