After 2 decades of work , it is time to really think about doing the right things before it is too late to regret. There are much more in life than just networth. You may be financially wealthy but life poor. It is time to rethink if this rat race is worth more than what you are giving up for ( family, kids, giving back to society, etc)

It is not about the quantity of net worth but the quality of life that matters.

You are not alone, yes happiness does not equate wealth and money isn't an end by itself more of what you can do/help/enhance yours/family/relatives and even strangers lives. Of course I am sure after prudent consideration, purpose of it all, one of you could resign and focus on other matters in life. We really can lead a simple (not simplistic) life. Do not worry over what to eat what to wear or put upon your feet, trust and pray go do your best today, leave it in the hands of the Lord. This might be a spiritual hymn but it holds too much truth in this Worldly earth.

Hi, the question lies in what's the possible routes without expertise from various aspects. Yes, it's freelancing but the time is so not worth. Perhaps, I might just come out of college and be a wage slave.

Growing up for us was not so easy as we were from low income families living in small flats. However, with sheer determination we managed to do well in school. Fast forward, we are now both 50 and count ourselves as successful based on where we came from. It feels like going from Third World to First World. We have good jobs with a current household income of $150k per year.

We upgraded from our flat to a condominium unit a few years ago. We sold our flat and bought the condo. We have since paid off the mortgage. For our family's comfort and convenience, we own a car. Sometimes we bought new while sometimes we bought used ones. As long as it can bring us from one place to another, we are happy.

In terms of combined net worth, it is about $1.6m, not a very high amount but certainly above average. We count ourselves lucky as we get to live in a nice condominium project as well as owning a car. These are assets which are considered highly here. We have achieved what we never thought was possible.

As for retirement at age 65, we will retire in our condo where we have many friends. Our neighbours are our good friends. Our retirement income will be from cpf life and annuities.

You are very blessed to own and live in a condominium and own a car despite your modest household income. You must be very lucky to have upgraded at the right time. You have achieved the Singapore dream. Owning and living in a condo is a big achievement.

I agree. Not easy to own a condo and a car here. If you got both, you are in the top 10% of the local population.
