Be realistic
The higher you get when economy down turn you are the first to go.
Do your own business is the most secure rather then asking how much others willing to pay you.
How much can you earn for your company?

Recently I was speaking to a recruiter who told me that she has placed candidates in individual-contributor SE roles at S$200K base. This seems like an astronomically high figure - anyone knows people who are making this much? She has no reason to lie, but I just wanted to know if it takes to reach these numbers (or what the typical figures for SEs in tech companies are).

Being an SE with that pay in Singapore is more difficult then being an IB analyst. Dont be jealous idiot, nobody pays you for free lunch.

Wow, I'm surprised they would pay US-pegged salaries here, given that average tech salaries here are significantly lower than the US.

If you're in a software engineering role in prop trading firm or hedge fund, it's possible.

That is only half the salary in US. You can earn 350k USD at FANG companies for senior engineer. I am talking abouy median here. Top will be 450k+ USD.
