You should ask for pay raise, unless your boss argues that you had been overpaid for the previous work?
He only said an executive is coming to his dept, may not be reporting to him.

Posted this in another thread, however seems like most of you have broken out of this calculation model? If so, how is it done?

I was taking this as a gauge of decent average?

I believe the following are average figures in private sector (probably excl banking)?

a) 20% increment for job switch (or promotion) every 2 years.
b) 4% increment in same job.

Thus 10 years of experience will earn you about $5.5K/month?
(Taking starting average salary to be S$2.5K/month)

Any thoughts?

Default Am i underpaid?

Hi,
I have more than 20 years in working expereince in the Accounts line with 10 years in group consolidation. I have a Diploma from NP, Chartered Secretary (ICSA) and ACCA Level 2. My working hours stretches from 9 am to 8pm on most days. I am currently drawing $5k. Am I grossly unpaid? Can those in Recruitment and Accounts share with me the typical pay of someone with my profile?

I got very demoralised when I read of people in accounts, much younger than me drawing 5-figure salary.

You woke up only after 20+ years? Abit too late now. Too old.

Fresh grads in finance get high 3k. Finance trainees in banks get 4k+. 20+ years experience only drawing 5k? your annual increment is $100 for the last 20+ years?

Pay is dependent on your job, not years of exp.

You could be doing 20+ years of jnr executive job for all we know, that would mean ur co. is overpaying you just because u stayed long enough

I have been Senior Exec for 10yrs plus, changed jobs, titles ranges from Accountant, Snr Accountant, Associates, even Manager. But pay about the same level.

My job scope is not junior, though I don't manage people. Many grads have shallower Accounting knowledge than me, those who are good at exam techniques and scoring but not at work.

The year I started work was the year fresh grad are commanding only $500 to $600 in audit firms. Increments throught the years were pathetic. Moral of the story is: DO NOT STAY TOO LONG WITH ONE EMPLOYER. LOYALTY DOES NOT PAY.

Are U in Accounts or Recruitment?

Btw, increments of less than $100 is not uncommon. I do know of Finance trainees in banks, young Australian grads, getting around $3.3k.

I did not wake up only after 20+ years. Simply continue working and thrusting that the company gave reasonable market increments. Pay is confidential. In the past, not the current internet age, there's no way one can know about 'market' pay. We also do not discuss/reveal our pay among colleagues. So no way you can tell if you are drawing reasonable pay.

If you refer to recruitment website like Jobstreet, you will notice that the pay level quoted is not high. I only realised my pay is miserable when the people I know started to reveal their pay in recent years.

In the first place your mentality is wrong. How much you are paid is dependent on the responsibility of your job and market supply and demand. It is not based on how much you know or how long you have been with the company. Do you expect a MBA holder to be paid $10k working as a cleaner for 20 years?

For a senior accounts exec who don't manage people, $5k is good. Otherwise, how much do you think you are worth?
