I feel I am also relatively underpaid. Joined civil service during the recession drawing 3.3k. My annual increment was just $170+ even though I got a B performance grade. Now drawing 3.7k after a civil service pay revision, but feel it's peanuts compared to peers with the same calibre.

when was the pay revision? this year?

Yes, I just got my annual increment.
Damn sad.
The truth:
civil sector lured me with high starting pay in the last recession, then give pathetic annual increments. at least for private sector, the sky's the limit. time to find a job tied to revenue.

You are referring to last year's recession? Your increment is not too bad, considering that some private sector companies froze pay. The increment at my organisation (not public sector, but I guess can be considered government linked) last year was close to 0%.

severely underpaid
Hi there...
I honestly do think you're severely underpaid for a grad from a prestigious uni. Unfortunately, you may call it bad luck, you graduated in a very bad year. Everything was down, $$ down, jobs down. Demanding requirements with low starting pay..
I started my 1st full time job in 2006 @ $1500/mth. with 1mth AWS.
2nd year increased to $1600/mth. Pathetic, i know.
Hated my boring stagnant job. I decided to look elsewhere. Count myself lucky. I had a blessing when my next jump was $2600/mth and within less than 2mths, i got confirmed and got $2800/mth doing Administrative support. Plus annual variable bonus..
3.5years down the road, here i am, still in this role. Am getting ~$4500/mth.
This all happened while i was doing my part time deg, expecting to grad this year.
Although, much is about the $$$, but i'm seriously sick of the scope i do on a day-to-day basis. And i do not wish to be labelled as an Admin Assistant for the rest of my life. I need a change. But i dont know how else to move from where i am to where i want to be. Plus, with the pay i'm currently drawing, I'm sure many junior role will require a pay cut which is quite hard to swallow.
I guess i'm still pinning on LUCK. Hoping that something will fall onto my lap like how it happened 3.5years back. And you really need a good boss. Someone who will recognise your efforts and help you up!
Good luck. Nothing is impossible. I'm some what on the same boat as you now..

wow... reading from the thread i think i am considered average? which initially i think i might be underpaid?
all of you are from big university graduates. i only had a dip from pte sch and a grad dip in T&D from SHRI.
currently drawing 4K per month now with 8yrs experience. recently my boss wants to redesignated my title to training manager with no increment and will be hiring a new executive to be placed under my dept.
i think i should nego for more at least 4.5K will be a decent figure for managers isn't it?

Was there a grade change? If no then it isn’t a promotion and just a title change so you might not be eligible for increment.
It is normal for companies to give out manager title when in fact the job is just executive level.

Now that you are managing an executive. It does require greater demand for other skill sets i.e. people management.
You should ask for pay raise, unless your boss argues that you had been overpaid for the previous work?
