Haha I'm the guy with $800k combined income. There's really nothing to brag about, all the govt office holders earn more than me, as with the CEO/CFOS, SME towkays..my donation of $10k is significant for me but again pales in comparison to the millions donated by the rich and famous in Singapore that got their names in hospitals, schools, various buildings etc.

But you are righ on 1 pt. Whatever your income there will be worries and concerns just as I set out in my previous posts. Count your blessings and hope for the best while prepare for the worst. However it doesn't mean that when u reach a certain income you can relax and stop to smell the flowers. Yes I may not need to work as hard to earn the next dollar but I strive to do my best and ensure my family is taken care of.

I'm just a regular guy who happen to be dealt a more than fair share of job, opportunity, skill and just got luckier than others.

Yes, life is short. It could be 30 years, or it could be 90 years or more as the government tells us. What we do or can do in our short 30 years or 90 years in this life, unfortunately depends on how much wealth we have. If you are dirt poor living day by day, you will be probably struggling to make ends meet and have little time and energy for anything else.

We talked about money and income here only because this is the purpose of this forum. We don't see accruing wealth as an end in itself, but as a means to something else. The most immediate is to provide a comfortable life for ourselves and our families for as long as we live.

After that, we want to enrich our lives with various experiences such as traveling the world, experiencing different cultures and yes, even helping the poor.

As I have said before, when you have little wealth, you help the poor by contributing your time. When you are rich, you help the poor through contributing your time and money bringing you double happiness.

While I agree that wealth may not bring happiness, I can say for a fact that having no wealth is miserable.

The rich will one day die.
The not so rich will one day die.

Why worry so much about how much you have?
Everyone can only eat and drink so much. If you are a billionaire, will you eat 100x more than a poor person?
Will the billionaire who lives in a big mansion sleep as soundly as the person living in a small home?

Be happy with what you have. Make the best of it. Don't have to work so hard till you die.
Make a difference to your life. Make a difference to the lives of others.
Go out there to volunteer your time and help the poor and destitute. Don't just donate a few thousand dollars and brag about it.
Life is short.
Make the world a better place.

What does wealth means to me:

1. Wealth gives me a feel good factor
2. Wealth gives me peace of mind
3. Wealth removes worry about funding my retirement
4. Wealth gives me options!

Housing.
When I got married after working for 2 years, I had no choice but to book a HDB BTO. Nothing wrong with that, but I had no other choice because I could not afford anything else. Now that we have built up some wealth, we could choose to stay in the HDB, stay in a condo or landed property. We chose to live in a condo.

Car
For a few years after our marriage, we took public transportation to work. Again no choice. Now, it is not whether can afford car or not, but what kind of car. Whether 1.6 ltr or 2 ltr etc. We decided to have 2 cars.

Travels
We used to stay in hostels when travelling, Now it is 3 to 5 star hotels

Food
We were regulars at hawker centres. Now, we eat in restaurants to enjoy the aircon, a little privacy and cleanliness.

Work
Up to till recently, we go to work to earn a living. Now, we work because we want to

The list goes on..

Well said. I used to work in a tough job, working long hours given the fast paced corporate environment because I have to as I wanted to earn a high salary which allows me to accumulate wealth.

Now after working for so many years, I no longer have to work in that kind of tough environment with poor work life balance. Now, I have chosen to semi retire and work on projects I choose. I choose my work. My wealth allows me to generate a comfortable passive income. My "for fun" work now just adds to my wealth. I now work as and when I please and I get to spend a lot of time with my loved ones.

I agree, wealth can do wonders! As long as you don't abuse the use of your wealth by wasting it.

Good news for those who got their $38k COE earlier. Luckily you didn't listen to the stupid fool who said COE price will drop to $30k. Now COE price went up today and will be on the uptrend. Demand for COE not only comes from the many people changing to new cars but also from private hire companies. If you are changing to new cars, better for you to get a guaranteed COE now. Huat Ah!

Don't be a stupid fool to wish COE will drop to $30k. Supply increase but demand will also increase. Private hire car companies are bidding for COEs! Don't be a stupid fool! Hahahaha

I worry when it comes after 2019 or 2020 and beyond.... by that time the quota will shrink.... wonder if COE will head back up and hit $150,000???

When supply starts to shrink and demand from private car hire companies goes up, by the simple law of demand and supply will mean that COE prices will shoot up.

Cat A will shoot up to $100k.

Cat B will shoot up to $150k.

At least.
