My sincere advice to those high earners working in the finance sector:

1. Be humble. Don't be arrogant. Respect your parents and elders.
2. Don't look down on the poor. Feed the poor.
3. Always be prepared for retrenchments.
4. Clear all your debts.
5. If you live in a expensive condo with lots of debt, sell it away, pay off your mortgage and downgrade to a cheap HDB flat and pay in full.
6. Clear all loan on your car. If you have a overhyped expensive continental car, sell it away and buy a cheap Asian car, pay in full. Don't be arrogant.
7. Keep lots of cash. You could go from double income to no income.
8. Do lots of charity.
9. Take care and all the best.

Be debt free. Be humble.

Sg2015 is on a distinguished road
Default Working in SPH

Hi all,

May I know if you know anyone who's currently working in SPH?

Just like to understand the culture and prospects for both executive (non-journalism) roles there.

Thank you in advance for sharing.

Female Locum GP earned $114k last year, a drop from $150k the year before as worked less...

Hoping to retire soon by renting out my Sg properties. A terrace house which may be rented out for 6k hopefully (agent has 2 clients with that budget and will get back to me next week) and a 1 bedder condo unit rented out for 2.2k. Refinancing my loans, mortgage will be 3k to 4k, depending if if do prepayment, so have 4 to 5k net passive income which I can then retire in my JB semid with my family....I am 39 years old....

Congrats mummy!

With the RM now at 2.68, you get RM13k pm, which is more than enough. Food is cheap, car is cheap, petrol is cheap, everything is cheap.

How are your kids' schooling? Are they going to international school in JB or in Singapore?

Are you going to be fully retired? And is your hubby going to still work or also fully retired?

Thx! But keeping my fingers crossed for the 6k tenancy contracts, not confirmed yet....

Depending on how much passive income we have, if really S$4k, then kids can go international school and we can fully retire for a while at least....

I have depression, income $0.00 for the past year. I couldn't find a job after graduation because of my depressive episodes. Prone to outburst of temper.

Thx...

So far from my visits and short stays there, things have been quite good. Security not as bad as what some say, as I see guards patrolling shopping centres and many police posts around my estate which has 2 guard entry points...

Food is about 60% that of Sg and of good quality, 6 pieces of salmon sashimi for S$10 or rm 26 and S10 for sharksfin soup too, parking is rm1 no matter how long at nearby Jusco Tebrau and milk powder is rm100 or S$40 for 1.8kg compared to S$60 to S$70 in Sg. Petrol, cars and insurance and road tax way cheaper than Sg...medicine and massages also cheaper though I have not tried.

My estate has beautiful semi ds and bungalows and villas and maintenance only rm130 per mth. Swimming pool and gym is pay per use, rm10 per person for whole day...

I bought at Austin Heights which has its own water theme park coming up and shophouses, restaurants and amenities galore outside my estate. International school and Sunway college very nearby too and Jusco and Tesco and a government hospital a short drive away...

Thanks for sharing. Austin Heights looks like a nice and convenient place with many amenities. I think I will be getting a small studio unit there for my wife and I when we retire. We like to work out in the gym and we also love swimming in the pool. We hope to do this everyday.

Btw, are there many Singaporean retirees living in Austin Heights? Any clubs or groups of Singaporeans organisation there?

Just got my keys a few mths ago and only been there a handful of times so only know my immediate neighbours.....more Malaysians there than Sgpn I believe at least in the landed areas....

I know some SPR malaysians stay there though and a medical colleague who invested in a shophouse for rental...
