I'm 31... working outside Singapore as an airline station manager. It's real slavery... 24/7 with a duty phone that rings all the time... responsible for sooooooo many things...
... and I'm only paid SGD4300 a month (excluding monthly allowances of only about SGD2000 more).
I wonder if I'm being stupid to take up this job... it's not funny moving my entire family overseas and my wife cannot work (so I'm the sole breadwinner).
Hope to hear your comments.

Yeah... but 5k a month is impossible. That MUST include the additional allowances. I reckon his basic pay must be about... 3k?
5k a month (including allowances) to work 24/7 overseas is actually very miserable. What do you think?

Graduated in 2004 from the bottom 5% of my cohorts in NUS.
Lucky enough to join a Big MNC and have to work really hard to make a redemption for my worth.
After 6.5yrs, I'm still in the same old company where i started off since they can provide me with numerous opportunities, valuable working experience and a fairly decent renumeration, considering it's not in the banking/finance sector.
Currently, I'm assigned to work in India with an annual package of S$160K (excluding housing, health and transportation benefits)
Since living expenses is really low here in India, almost 90% of my salary can be saved.
With this sack of cash, I can finance my EMBA in Chicago Booth or INSEAD when I'm back.

Station Manager
Hi station manager,
So how much of your allowance do u get to save per mth? Becos if u get to save more, it might not be that bad. (i suppose the allowance depends on which country u're posted to?)
Also, how many mths of bonus do u typically expect in a year? Bonuses can make a lot of difference to one's total remuneration package.
Cheers,
Financeguy

imho station managers suit singles who wanna earn high pay the quick way, and at the same time experience life overseas.
