While tier 2 pays better than 1, the doors they open are unparalleled
Tier 3 often struggle to pay as well as even tier 1 and do not usually have the juicy assignments
Tier 4 is the likes of operations/technology consulting
There is nothing wrong with choosing one over the other, there are only so many limited seats, just a reminder to go in with your eyes open and your long term goal in mind

Because all firms tend to have a gap at manager level, and t3 consultants are relatively cheaper with experience
Mbb also hires some from t3

1) at MBB / tier 2, everyone at the same grade is paid the same. ask your friends in those firms.
2) yes mbb hire from [t3] but not lateral / promo.
are you in a t1/t2? curious.

(1) -- true, apart from variable or performance bonuses
(2) -- really depends on market. have 3 friends in indo S& and malaysia ACN strat who managed to lateral and promo to mck and bcg
