Basically doing what they do best, wayang & smoke and mirrors. hanging around in the officer's mess smoking and pretending to have done a hard days' work by churning out a few rubbish reports. if you come to think of it,sounds exactly like what management consultants are paid to do.

Heard that this is a dead end job in E&Y and not a real management consulting job. The role require the person to be based in one of the camps for at least 3 to 4 years to work on a single project. This role does not allow the person to learn real consulting practises or work with different clients in exciting projects. Morale is very low among the existing pool and many are planning to resign since they have little chance to be posted back to do real consultant work.

I think this may be somewhat correct. Management Consulting Associate or first year Business Analyst positions generally require at least a completed undergraduate degree. The position is EY's Management Consultant, Advisory role and lists Diploma holders as eligible for the position. The job description also seems to largely suggest a lot of grunt work. If you are interested in consulting, perhaps look towards Deloitte Consulting (strategy and ops) and PwC's consulting function. Those two are the more recognised among the big 4. There, associates generally work in functional teams on projects that lasts anywhere between 3-6 months on average.

Have a look at .managementconsulted.com or .vault.com for more information. Just note that the information there is mainly catered to U.S. consulting positions, but on a broad scale it is quite relatable to the environment here.

I have a friend who is a senior manager in management consultant from one of the big4. According to his description his job is basically a sales job that tries to sale the management capability of the team/firm to other companies seeking to outsource part of their back office functionalities. So it's really a person job, one that requires a lot of professional networking - like golfing, and lots of travel. But different firm/team may have different job focus or industry focus so just take this as reference.

I have an offer from big4 which shows title as Associate Director (D2) - would anyone know what is meant by D2 - Is it some grading/ ranking - if yes, then what is the grading structure.

The salary offered is 12K including CPF, is it at par with industry standards of big4 in Singapore. The role is in consulting function possibly RC/MC

I need to respond on this offer, request your help in getting some insight

sounds right. this is not a true blue consulting job. my boyfriend who was there shared that in fact, most the peeps hired for this role will never even make it through ernst & young's doors for the standard consulting role. many of them only have correspondences degree!
