Those doing law as second degree from Smu Suss Jd are just buying a law degree.

Why spend $100000 for piece of paper when nobody recognize these schools outside singapore

I am saying this cus job market is bad in singapore and they cannot go elsewhere

employers prefer nus graduates because the curriculum is way more vigorous

Maybe SMU JD is just having big cohort but still many goes to big 4 plus international firms?

. Perhaps it's their life experience.

Agreed. With singapore becoming more international, firms are looking for graduates from schools that are internationally recognised. NUS is consistently top 20 in the world in the QS law rankings. SMU was ranked 100-150 for the past few years before dropping to 150-200 this year.

Do you have any figures?

I've heard there's a significant divide in culture between local Singaporeans and the expats who work at NRF.

Also, any info on Hogan Lovells? Previous posts suggested that they are just a rebranded Lee&Lee and there's no real uplift in terms of salary, not sure if that's the case since they've employed many Links/MC partners over the years.

JLC and Intl firms are highly selective.
In terms of selectivity nowadays:

JLC/CC
Baker/AGC
Big 4 (with Drew/A&G usually being somewhat more selective than WP or R&T, but also depends on dept)

Also, for moots at least one from every cohort have been representing school and winning local competitions. Also it is not uncommon that a GLB gets onto the Dean's list as well.

In fact their achievements in their very own small numbers are beyond the proportion of the general LLB cohort they are competing against.
agreed, GLBs generally do better in the job market vis-a-vis LLBs with similar grade profiles.
