As a junior associate, I’ve gained valuable experience battling alongside senior colleagues on the frontlines. Here, you are never just doing piecemeal research or standing in as drafting support; instead, you take a broader and active involvement in overall file strategy and client engagement. I didn’t realise how much I’d taken this for granted until a recent meeting I attended – there were two junior associates from the opposing firm, and neither of them were introduced. I’ve had a name card since I stepped in as a trainee, I’ve always been introduced. I’ve even led meetings. Your opinion here is valued, heard and discussed. The firm’s structure also allows for a direct working relationship with partners and mentors, and I’ve had the privilege of second-chairing for Shen Yi since my first year of practice
Is this uniform across all departments/ teams or only for litigation? Rumours around school is that certain teams, led by feminists, are unable to retain talent due to the toxic environment of constantly having to butter up to the bosses and their whimsical tendencies. Is this true?

There are some things in the legal industry that we all know but we don’t say.

One example is: Working under a female boss.

I just found that a "boutique dispute resolution firm" in Singapore is offering 1PQE lawyers $5.6k/mth with front-loading. What does this translate into in terms of gross monthly salary and how does it compare with the market?

Same as big four salary then.
Front loading means you get no more bonus or about 1 month bonus depending on business performance.

Woah does the big 4 pay so little these days? I still remember in 2015 RnT used to pay $5.6k for NQs and assocs were complaining they were paid too little.

Agree. Local law firms are paying too little.

Compared to HK, UK, US,

singapore NQ lawyers salary is a joke

For years it hasn’t risen much

I even heard some law firms requesting trainees after TC to switch to paralegal roles (if not won’t get retained)—- Is this true?
