Because there are cost consequences.

Yes. This is what i think too... it's such a shame though. I think part of it is also that they don't need the money (from well to do families) and they don't understand just how tough the market is now.

Nope. Good guess though.

I can say with a lot of certainty that this isn't happening right now.

I made the firm decision to quit law and became a financial consultant. Although the market isn’t doing well now, my commission is still on the higher-end (averaging about 12k/month). I have another friend who graduated the same year as me and is doing BD (8k/month). We are glad we made the decision after some tough deliberations and we are doing what we love right now. I love talking to clients from the beginning and I know law is going to shut me out for at least a few years. Now I get to manage my own portfolio and the salary is awesome. When I visit this page and look at all you struggling, it just reaffirmed that my decision to quit was right from the very beginning.

Love it when they rebrand "selling insurance" as a "financial consultant".

My parents exactly told me the same thing a year ago when I started out. True enough, insurance is 80% of what we do. But we also do wealth and retirement planning. Whatever it is, I’m still earning more than 10k a month just by talking to clients. Stressful at times but I enjoy the challenge. Better than law.

Your input is welcome, and fair enough. Perhaps it's better than law for you.

But clearly you came here not out of a desire to share (assuming you're even being honest about your salary and story), but to **** over the lawyers / law students in this forum.

Personally, at 2 PQE I was earning more than you are right now. The hours are long, but it's intellectually satisfying and I work with very creative and intelligent people. For all the to-be lawyers reading this, law work can be very satisfying -> do your homework and find the firm/team which will make work rewarding for you.

i'm inclined to believe this ^.
Honestly, i think many NQs who have not been retained will have trouble finding jobs.

If a legal exec position is offered, i'd say take first .... especially if you are determined to stay in legal. Once things get better, firms will start hiring again.

I honestly think there will be some hiring once all the covid-19 relief measures die down.
