Depends on how long your stint is in AGC and whether you've diversified your skills while in AGC.

I have a friend who joined AGC (farmer) but spent his weekends and after hours writing and publishing academic pieces on tort, contract and employment law. So after 5 years with AGC, he was able to transition smoothly into a non-crim liti role with a big4 team (even then, not at the pqe he deserved tbh).

Other friends who've literally just done crim have not been so successful. Most of them had to settle for small and med law firms doing gen lit work.
OP again. Ofc, i'm talking about farmers, ya. I'm not talking about scholars or those who have been marked for "greater things in life".

Default Current student in Australia wishing to practice law in SG

Is it worth it?

If I'm committed I need to do 1 year of studies before transferring to law.

Not with the current market conditions unless you've got connections or are a super high flying first class honours grad.

Firms in SG prefer hiring from local Us. That's the unfortunate fact of life.

Why not? Admittedly the partners are low PQE, but they seem to be expanding quite fast (now got like 15 headcount?) in 3 years.

I'm currently in Australia and didn't get the marks to get into an approved law degree straight out of high school. However, the way it works here is that you can do 1 year of studies and attain a high enough average mark to transfer into law.

I'm currently deciding between Monash business marketing, doing an exchange semester at SMU/NUS and going back to Singapore to work.

Or, I can try my hand at law. It's got much more barriers though. I need to undertake 1 year of extra study, graduate in the top 70% of the cohort and do Part A/B once I go back. I also realise Aussie unis aren't really respected here.

Either way, I would prefer to work in Singapore rather than Aussie. So, marketing or law?

I do have connections. I go back every year for CNY, and family there introduced me to some lawyers. Some of them have already offered me jobs if I choose to study law. These are family/criminal law firms in Chinatown but I don't mind.

And you should intern at these family/criminal law firms before you say "i don't mind".
