Not untrue. The people I know in Bakers are more often than not nice.

While I sympathize fully I am totally not surprised.
Too many young ones think they are irreplaceable.
Often hear juniors saying if they quit the boss will be dead.
But if you have been around long enough, not just for law firms, you will realise that anyone can pick up the pieces.
That’s the reality. We always want to feel at the centre of attraction, important with our articles and our voices. But the truth is no one really cares once you have no functional value to them anymore.
Bosses are constantly on the lookout for better individuals.

At most they will just be border-line negligent for a while - a lot of matters suddenly no response for weeks, no follow-up, etc. But eventually someone will pick up on it.

Have seen this happen a few times.

It was a very humbling experience for me.

Same situation.

Well my ex boss wasn't a bad boss per se, objectively I say he treated me quite well and was a pleasant person at the very least (I did his work, he left me to my own devices and did not care what I do as long as I don't go overboard)when I was on his service. There were just some other issues(colleagues issues) that irk me and I resign in a heat of moment. While I may not be the brightest I dare say that I possess at least some work ethic such I do not leave **** behind, I do regret resigning when I was rash and unhappy and caused inconvenience (when my colleagues do not have the capability to carry heavy workload as before that I already have to pick up said colleagues slack) to him with my departure.

However I am relieved to hear from your experience that someone will pick up on the slack. I sincerely harbour my former boss no ill will and wish that my replacement will be much better than me. He is a nice person such that while we ended on not so pleasant terms, I still wish that his work will run smoothly.

The average and below average are replaceable. If someone's good, that's a little harder to find.

Usually it is below average that tends to stay on longer than they should

Because we are all the below average lawyers who stay on in the industry.
