It may be more worthwhile trying to do better at your current job and thereafter asking your employer for a raise. Or find a similar job with another firm with better pay, try to do well at it, and move from there. May not be very practical to pursue a JD at 40, just for the sake of trying to earn more money. It's hard to predict what the industry will look like in 5 years time, and there is no certainty that you will be able to get a TC and practice law.

Of course, it all boils down to ability at the end of the day. If you are confident of doing well in law school, then it should not be a problem to get a TC and practice law. But then again, if you are confident of doing well in law school, you might as well apply yourself to doing better at your current job, or making a move to another job that doesn't require a 5 year investment.

Today is apparently the first day of part b exams. So exciting!!! Can’t wait to see who will be the top in feb/mar next year. From that list we can identify the titans of industry

LOL, most people, like me are just trying to live by. Being top is just a great stepping stone but does not define success.

It’s a fact that people who do well get more opportunities and go further in life. If you look at the practical law course (PLC) list of top students for the Bar (8-10 years on), you do realize that most of them are holding top position whether in government, law firms, or better still, the razer boss.
The people who are mediocre are the ones who usually leave the industry. I mean I just got a 2:1 in law and it’s really frustrating seeing my friends with first class and top few in the PLC going so much ahead in life. I’m a 6 years PQE and have not even made partner.

First, as someone mentioned earlier - top lawyers don't become 'titans of industry' by definition. General counsel of a local conglomerate, maybe yes, but Singtel is hardly a F500 company. 'Titans of industry' typically come from finance or business backgrounds.

Not sure why everyone in the local law schools are citing Min Liang Ho as their idol and ultimate aspiration. I've seen his name and 'Razer boss' being mentioned more than a few times on this thread and it seems like anyone from NUS law is clamouring to be associated with him. He is an extraordinary person, one of one since the inception itself of NUS Law. However, the FACT (yes, you read that right, fact) is that, if you're reading this, you won't become anywhere close to who he is.

it's just like saying if I go to Harvard Law I can become the President of the United States, prestige and ability by association is far from having the capability itself.
