Firms are increasingly using part b to decide if a trainee is retained or not. Heard those who fail one subject or more but pass during the retest are not slated to be retained. Applies for the big four and mid size.

just to clarify, since the previous poster was asking about part B failure rates, when you say "80-90% after the retest" do you mean that this is the proportion which passes after said retest? I just wanted to double check since a failure rate of 80% seems to be a little on the high side for part B.

hello, i may be asking a sensitive question here. for those who didnt get retained, what were your follow actions/plan, and how successful were you at securing a position at a different firm? & what is the profile of your new firm? thank you.

Poster is referring to pass rates : 80-90% (leaning towards 90%). It’s very hard to fail especially when they make u class participate and go through a course.

If you’re in big four and don’t get retained, then drop to mid size. If mid size and don’t get retained then drop to small firm.
Some quit going back to law firms, and go in house or do other fields. Choose a wise partner to help you. And be grateful once you receive help.

Yes, enlist the help of a trusted partner. Ask if you are able to transfer within the firm to another department which needs juniors. There may be such vacancies.
I have friends who were not retained, and still managed to end up getting offers from MC. Have faith in yourself. This is just a matter of supply and demand - something which changes throughout the years.

Wow so good. I trained in a big firm but I can’t even get another big firm now.
