A lot of big companies in Singapore are shrinking their office space. My friend doing building management has noticed this trend. Companies with multi-floor leases are scaling down and sub-leasing floors out. The trade war are making companies cautious. Jobs may be hard to come by for the next few years. It may sound cool to fire your boss, but leaving without another secured job offer is extremely dangerous. Good lucky to the job hunt. Better secure a job before Trump start the trade war with China again.

Unhappy Jobless chem degree

Hi, I graduated from NUS with a chemistry degree. Already about 6 months jobless. Tbh, i truly lost interest in chem during my undergraduate studies so looking to find jobs open to any degree discipline. During the 6 months, i have alr completed a 3 month contract job, go overseas 3 times. And still unsuccessfull.. being jobless is really depressing huh guys

Want to gain skills through external couses such as skillsfuture, poly etc but damn exp so cant afford to do so. And whats making it worse is most of the degree entry level jobs require 1-2 years exp. Wth how can a fresh grad have such exp if the entry level job desc is that? What a vicious cycle?!

Sound pretty bad as you don't have interest in the degree that you are studying for. It is pretty hard to convince employers these day to hire someone out of their degree scope as they do not know whether you have the knowledge and competency to do the job. Chemistry degree is pretty niche to be honest.

I think completing contract jobs is a good start. At least it show to employer you are willing to work

Have you tried to apply for MX or DXO schemes in Mindef? You should consider since you have a local university degree.

Yo bro! heads up man, dont be disheartened. You are not alone, many of us here also walked through this path.

Since you already decided on jobs that requires any discipline degree, can consider uniformed group? Like Home Team, join a few years than leave for other jobs. Or like what one user mentioned, can consider DXO positions too.

Cheers!

Did ops for several years in the finance industry...has stopped working for half a year.
Is it difficult for someone coming to 40 to go back or easier if I take a paycut from 100k pa?

At a crossroads of what to do if I change career and this definitely means a paycut.

Local Uni degree if cant find a job go and join ICA. It’s very easy to get in and high pay if you can’t find a job after a year or so, just suck it up and join uniform group n earn the money first. Mid career change ppl can join kindergarten or nurse in PCP. There is always job out there. I just went for a few interviews and jobless for 6 months. If no job , I will apply for pre sch teaching in PCP. I’m a local degree too mid career change! We are not alone ok!

Are you willing to take at least 60% paycut to change career?

been jobless since Aug. Been sending job applications since then. Either rejections or no replies. Feeling very desperate at the moment and feeling really sucks as I stay at home everyday. Now looking to give tuition classes to get some cash. Lucky I don't have a family yet else I will be really stressed. Any seniors here care to share their experience?
I have been through your stage even for a longer period. Remembered those times.
I do have job openings for sales if you are interested.
Drop me a whatsapp @ 8389 2462 to discuss further.
