To those who's been jobless for some time, don't give up and hold your chin up because no one else will do that for you. The level of confidence can often be felt through your voice and tone over the phone. Imagine if you are a recruiter/manager, i'm sure you would be put off by a candidate (regardless if he has excellent experience/education/CV) whom does not give you a positive vibe - They are not recruiting to do good deeds and give somebody a chance, they are trying to plug the gaps within their company so you owe it to yourself to make it work.
This is coming from someone who went through the same bad patch. I was jobless for 6 months, picked myself up, started doing doing part-time work for 3-5 months and finally a full-time offer with a bank. Moving forward to 5 years later, currently i'm earning 6 digit p.a. at early 30s as an employee with a Tech MNC
Quoting Steve Jobs, "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future."

I've been job hunting for 3 months, and still no replies. Can't even get a single callback. Really feel damn demoralised and terrible. When I was young, I'd read newspaper/magazine articles about people sharing their frustrations about not being able to get a job. However, these tend to be the older folks and I had mentally prepared myself to face up to reality when I get older. What I didn't expect, is to face the same experience at my grand "old" age of 30!

Not uncommon to lose a job at young age. My friend got retrenched twice at early 30s. He tool nearly 6 to 9 months to find a job each time. The latest job he could only get his matching pay from last drawn. The issue is that you lose your bargaining power once you got retrenched.
When you are at your earning peak, advice is too spend wisely, save prudently and if possible invest in something you are familiar with. This is so that you can have buffer funds when you are out of job.

6 to 9 months of job searching! that sounds like a real nightmare. you are right, always better to have some buffer funds.

Engineering and IT. Though I prefer engineering over IT due to career prospects.

With every failed interview, you gain more experience. Stay positive. Life is about experiences.
