Just wonder if our unemployment rate has increased over the years?

With the increase population in our country, and the numbers of "Foreign Talent" these days, even anyone with good qualifications, experience and skills will have problem getting his/her next job so soon. Too much competition not only from the local but also the "Foreign Talents".

if you're a man, don't think many companies will believe you purely want a long break. reality will often make them think that you have been retrenched.
Don't think it's that bad. Career breaks are quite acceptable nowadays. It is not like this person takes break every 2 to 3 years. After 17 years, why not.

Would be better to send early if you feel insecure about taking a break. You can probably send an application with a cover letter which is really convincing so even if you're too early, you leave an impression with the recruiter.

Best of luck!

Sometimes being jobless is not a bad thing afterall. Better to land in a job where you can learn a lot than stay in job where there is no fixed way of doing things and what is worse, people gang up against you cos you are newbie and somemore they like to impose their own rules. Don't say politics are everywhere, as long as it is not a nasty politics which will make you lose your job, it is still ok to work in.

I suppose at some stage of our live, majority of us will face unemployment, some short-term, while others can be lengthy.

For unemployed & employed, always set a realistic target, mix with positive people around you that will add-value to reach your target. Not forgetting to continue self-learning & improving your competency and skillsets to stay relevant in the market.

Default Jobs Bank

Has anyone tried jobs posted on Jobs Bank? Is it more effective and a better source than Jobstreet or JobsDB in term of response to applications sent?

I am unemployed for quite some time due to job mismatch. I have highly specialised skills. Anyway, after some time, I decided not to become an employee any more. I decided to chart my own destiny. I sold my landed home and downgraded to a penthouse condo and paying off all my mortgages and loans. I then spend my time investing in the stock market with a million dollars in my account. I earn about $80k pa in dividends and trading gains per annum. My wife is also working and she earns $90k pa. Our household expenses is $100k pa and we share the expenses equally. We manage to save $70k pa. Being debt free feels great. I now sleep in peace knowing that we are debt free.
