I got retrenched for about a year, can't find work. I decided to look for contract jobs and got shortlisted for a contract job at DBS. The job scope is not in my domain and its a entry level customer service office job. The pay is also way lower than what I used be paid.

I am hoping to get a foot into DBS as a contractor, then find a job internally that is in lined with my previous function.

Any thought?
Yes, I know of a handful of people who converted from contract to perm positions, both within the same department or they applied for other perm role in other department and got it. My bosses told me hiring managers tend to prefer those who work in DBS before as they are more familiar with the landscape. However, come end 2022 I also know of good workers whose contract not renewed in 2023 due to budget constraints - excuse given by the bosses.

In the event you get converted to perm, you get to apply for internal mobility (aka department transfer) after 2 years of working in your current role where i heard your boss cannot stop you, also depends on job availability. I also know of those who manage to transfer <2 year, but I think you need the approval of your bosses for this (not 100% sure how).

All the best for your application.

Does the 2 years include previous contract working length?

Does a contract staff get benefits of a perm staff. Recently offered a contract role after TFIP but was told that contract staff have all the benefits that perms have

All these BS about internal transfer and your boss cannot stop you is utter BS la. Unless the boss on the otherside know you personally he/she will do a check with your current boss on your work attitide and performance and all your current boss need to do is to bad mouth you and your trabsfer will be shelved.

Was not aware there was such a program, googled it and wow it sounds like dbs SEED, is there any difference? Pay looks to be the same which is 5.5k.

Anyway yeah contractors get the same benefit but less leave.

Iflex value is the same I believe

For both #1 and #2, the increment is anything from 8% to 15% range. If you go less or more than this range, either you are damn bad or damn good.

For Assoc to Sr Assoc, takes about 2-3 yers.
For Sr Assoc to AVP, takes about 2-5 years, averagely shld be 3 years for normal ppl.
It depends on your role. I was Assoc in DBS and my basic was 4.8k and this was before covid. The same role at Assoc level can probably fetch more than 5k now.

How to apply for other roles? through dbs job portal? Does 2 years of working in the current role includes the time as a contractor?
