Default Chevron COBRA assesment, please help!

Hi all, I've applied for the position of operation technician at Chevron and I am being selected to attend this COBRA test ( Console Operator Basic Requirement Assessment).

I did a few read-ups from the net but can't find much info except that this a simulation done on a PC, whole process takes 4 hours. To those who have taken this test. Is it easy to pass?

Does this test require the person to have chemical industrial experience? Hoping someone who have taken this test to give some overview and insight...Thanks!!!

Congrats on being selected for the cobra assessment..it is a simple chemical process simulation done on the pc... Everything is mainly done on the pc, series of tutorial followed by test. Mainly you will be required to control process temperature, level and some other things...

No need experience also ok....

After you pass the cobra, still have English test, fitness test and interview before you can get into one of the best petrochemical company in SG....but life as a technician there ain't really easy though

Thanks for the advice, I have just completed the COBRA test yesterday..pretty interesting and intense test I must say..

Now still awaiting for their reply, still have to go for fitness test, interview, english test, medical test...wah really very long drawn hiring process.

Anybody now working in Chevron? Is it a good company to work for? How's the work culture over there?

Ok, I try my best to describe the test.

Its a 4 hour self-paced assessment. The objecttive of the test is to monitor various controls of a simple refinery to obtain the desire production target without hitting any safety alarms (Temp, Pressure, fiuld levels..etc..)

The 1st 2 hours will explain how each control (Fan power, heater power, valves...etc) affect the various parameters...PAY CLOSE ATTENTION in this part. Here you will understand which control to modify to rectify the simulated problem that may arise.

The 3rd hour is for practising a few scenerios, (example: the program will tell you one of the valve is stucked, so you might need to set the fan power higher to reduce the pressure...) Things like that.

The 4th hour is the test, got 4 scenerios, if you work fast can actually finish in under 4 hours. The last scenerio some of the alarm you can't avoid. So be prepared. Just pay close attention and use the trend graph and most will have no problems.

I'm pretty nervous after this, I think I did well in the test. But there are so many more hurdles to go through, really keeping my fingers crossed!

Btw, are you working in chevron now?

nope, not working there. went for the lab tech interview a few years back but for lab tech only got interview and then medical checkup. but i took up another offer, so didn't join in the end. i like that they have pickup point quite near me, at bishan/amk and they have a quite structured progression plan for technicians.
