Default Advice needed

Hi I would like to seek your advice on this:

A little background: I entered service in Dec 2016, the first batch of 16mths PGDE. Started my practicum Term 1 2018 and officially as trained teacher is Term 2 2018.
Male, completed NS.

Performance grade
2019: C (promoted to GEO 3 due to NS I guess)
2020: B
2021: A (promoted to GEO 4, as of April 2021)

I have read the forum and I am indeed lucky to have supportive RO and mentors who were willing to guide me and helped me along the way as a you g BT.

I have recently moved to HQ and got to know through some peers about the future leaders program (FLP). From what I understand, there were some scholars who were already automatically emplaced into the program.

Just wondering if there’s a chance for non scholars to join?

I have spoken with my RO and the response I am told was that it’s centrally managed by HR

As a young officer, I think I have tried my best to do my job welll in T&L as well as putting my students interests first. I think my grades does provide affirmation of the work I’ve done and I must be grateful that my school culture is a supportive one with nice mentors to guide me.

I’m passionate in what I do and I hope
I can continue to do so. I am also proactively taking charge of my own PD, which is why I am hoping to know what does FLP entails and whether can non scholars be part of it?

After reading the various recent thread, I know
Im considered very lucky to have been promoted and I’m also surprised that I got it as I know moving from GEO3 to 4 is not an easy one and really depends of having a good RO and school leaders.

Can anyone advice on the FLP? Should I try emailing HR?

Thanks!

From my experience in HQ, FLP is indeed for scholars mostly. There are cases of non scholars emplaced, but they are usually those with very high CEP and always hitting the top PB grade, if i’m not wrong. You can’t ask for it; HR will inform schools of officers selected to be emplaced on it. No point emailing HR abt it.
Just keep working hard and maybe seek open posting to HQ positions in future.

Can anyone verify this statement? Those who have been promoted before in April can help to verify if the increment (not annual increment) only comes in at October?
Those promoted in April gets increment in April; those promoted in Oct gets increment in Oct if i’m not wrong.
Why different timing is coz of Years in Service.
In the past, there used to be two NIE batches- Jan batch and July batch.
Jan batch enters sch in Jan, so they will fulfil certain years in service before April Promotion.
July batch enters sch only in July, so they cannot fulfil years in service by April; hence the October promotion.
The promotions cater to the above scenarios too. Nowadays, most would enter the sch after practicum in March, so usually should be promotion in April. Of course, there are also those in PGDE PE, who enters only sometime in Term 3, so their promotion could be in October instead.

Completed NS
2nd Upper BA (Ed)
Entered service in 2017 Jun

My grades since entering service:

2018: C (promoted to GEO 3 in Oct)
2019: C
2020: B
2021: A (promoted to GEO 4)

My colleague said I am faster than the 'normal' group of people. Is that true? Also, anyone can share what is the step-up between GEO 3 to GEO 4 in terms of responsibilities and expectations, and how to progress upwards to GEO 5?
I would say it is rather fast, partly due to the upward trend in grade, plus gender factor. Also depends on the school you are in- the number of teachers in each sub-grade.
Largely in GEO 4, you need to have greater lead in level or school-wide programmes, impact will be at a larger scale. Teaching pedagogies are expected to be of greater variety, classroom management should be more enhanced.
To hit GEO 5, it is gonna be very competitive, as there are many SHs and even HODs at GEO 4 and 5.

Hmmm Is this legit? I am confuse though cos my colleague and i entered the school same month, same year. Both of us are female. But she is promoted in April while me in October. I've seen post before regarding April promotion getting the increment in october.

There are really many factors eg CEP. It is really difficult to explain why some are promoted earlier, others later.
HR regulates the numbers also

I am actually now in HQ, start of Jan. And I think I’m grateful to my ex school leaders and RO who have helped me and gave me good grades and I managed to promote this year.

Otherwise I think it’s really hard to be promoted here in HQ with so many strong calibre of officers.

Thanks for your help and advice and at least I guess I’ should be glad that I am promoted this year.

Hi all, congrats on so many of you getting promotions! Keep working hard and your efforts will pay off. I would like to seek some advice from u all experienced teachers.

I am an untrained teacher and I feel v overwhelmed with what I have on my plate now. I know that life as a teacher wont be easy, but experiencing it is a whole new thing. I am fine with the lesson prep, lesson delivery, dept work etc but whats tough is managing the other 100 things that are going on at the same time (students feeling sick/complaining of another student, taking note of whos absent and managing their work, corrections gg back and forth). And having that 1-2 students who are disruptive to the class and when you try to manage them, time is almost up and your period is gone and then you are behind SOW. I spoke with the FT, but I still feel v helpless about this student and its not fair to the rest. I barely havr time to eat or use the toilet.

I joined this industry wanting to make a difference. But with everything packed so tight and pressures for deadline, is there any real difference that we are making? I love interacting with the kids 1 on 1. But as a class, they are just so different.

Can I ask are all these struggles that I am facing real or am I unsuitable for this career :-(

My load is quite like a full time teacher.

How do you all experienced teacher know what you want? Take one step a time and fight one battle at a time? What motivates you to fight on?

I see my colleagues all leaving at 6pm, bringing home work when they have kids and commitments too, how do you all heroes do it?

- struggling soul who would appreciate any kind words/advice

First of all, congrats! It's rare to be promoted to GEO4 from 3 in 2 years. This already shows your CEP has been raised at some point.

FLP is centrally managed. If your CEP is high and your performance has been good and your age hasnt hit a ceiling (which seems to be the case for you) , HR will certainly look for you if you continue this performance. No need to look for them

A good piece of evidence is that you are already at HQ. I assume this is a facilitated HQ posting (invited to apply for certain HQ postings).

No I applied through open postings. Although during some of my interviews, the interviewers were asking why am I not on facilitated posting. And back then I didn’t know as well.

I felt to challenge myself and hence decided to leave school and try for HQ posting. And I’m glad I did ok and now in a division in HQ, although I do miss school and teaching. Still adjusting to desk bound job and the demand here in HQ seems higher too.

Hence I’m mentally prepared that my performance grade will be a C next year since I’ve just got promoted. But I’ll still do my best and give my best shot.

Could you advice what do you mean by age ceiling? How does HR identify / look for me? Just curious? As there’s so many educators, surely I am hoping I’m not missed out by the system. :/
