No test experience. No dependency injection. Just now how to write everything in 1 function. Don't know how to separate the responsibilities into multiple class.
No performance experience. All the code they written is synchronous. No async. No petroemajcr tuning. No cache.no memory. Not scalable....

Common sense pls. Not all, there are many that earn less than that. The median salary is infact lesser than 5k. But 5k is for the good one with at least second upper. So not that uncommon as well.

You will be surprise how many “seniors” or senior architects are pretty obsolete on their tech and many of them are pretty useless. I am already a senior but there are many dummies out there reflected on their low salary, while some dummy managers thinks they are on the buck.

I have also seen very good freshgrad which has done a lot of coding on complex problems like building compiler/router/simple load balancer from scratch, contribute to open source, etc. It is really hard to judge someone merely on their seniority.

Is it true that many CS fresh grads are earning more than an equivalent grad with 5 years experience in the same firm now?

Of course not la dey. But in rare occasions, some people prefer to deny promotions and just relax at their role for very long. These people may get a lower pay than fresh grads in the same firm as fresh grad salaries will always increase due to market demands. However, experienced professionals may not see their demands increase proportionately mainly due to how much more complex it is to compare and hire the right experienced worker.

Fresh grad very simply, they are all classified into honours. Can see where they interned at, what kind of side projects they took, what kind of business case competition etc they won.

No, people with 5 years should earn around 8k now at companies that pay 5k for new grad. Tech is a very complicated subject and the complexity will only keep increasing hence the pay as well. Ofc, i am referring to companies that are using the latest tech and solving difficult problems. I am not talking about the typical IT jobs that are doing data entry, writing simple SQL and java app.
