I am not unreasonable. The economy has indeed taken a turn in 2016 BUT the basis of the adjustment was laid out in mid-end 2015 at the same time with MOE's proposals for teachers.

But the teachers got the up to 8% adjustment in Sept 15 just before the elections. And there has always been concerted effort by the PSD to hold back polytechnic salary adjustments as announced in Feb 2013 when the then pay rise was BACK DATED to sept 2012.

What does that show?

There is a tendency to hold back polytechnic lecturers pay adjustment by 5-6 months to 'observe the market conditions'. Whilst this action by itself is not wrong, there is discrimination and uneven handed ness as compared to MOE teachers whom, so far as I know, have Never 'enjoyed' a back dated adjustment due to holding back to 'observe the market conditions'...

For this reason, the govt henceforth OWES me (it's up to you to decide otherwise, everyone can have their opinion) one adjustment. Probably worth 6% or so. And hence I will with hold support for the govt as it has breached the social contract.

I like the way you self justify and delude yourself.

At a time of increasing retrenchments and underemployment as confirmed even by NTUC due to severe global economic slowdown, we have a poly teacher here who is bitching about a "breach in social contract" just because he didn't get a 6% increase this round.

The breach in social contract as far as most of us are concerned is that you people are so secured in your job and detached from the wider society that you even have time to talk crap and threaten to "withhold support to the PAP" just because you don't get the money you want.

Instead of resorting to childish antics like your supposed withdrawal of support to PAP, why not get your @rse moving and join us in private sector so that you can reestablish your social contract?

Am looking to become a polytechnic lecturer after 4 years in the private sector in IT. My academic qualifications are good (1st class honours, masters from US) and former scholarship holder. What are the qualities that the polytechnics look out for? Would my credentials make it significantly easier for me to enter the polytechnic as a lecturer?

Thanks!

In the first place, why should poly lecturers be given a pay adjustment just because school teachers are given one. These are two different schemes. In fact, the pay adjustment for teachers was given at a time when the economy was already slowing. If the economic situation deteriorates, perhaps there needs to be a pay cut.

You know, if you don't like your job you can just quit right? If you feel that the polytechnic not giving you your deserved increment you can just quit and find another job. If you are that good someone will hire you and pay your salary. Wanna compare to moe so much why not just join moe then?

For engineering industry with experience of 4 Years and local degree, is it likely the salary will at least be matched? Current salary draw around 4K.

Will I likely be placed in PAX 6?

What are the promotion chances? Need to be consistent above-average performer?

Will be glad if someone can give some insight

probably 5.5-6k. promotion is quite standard for the first few grades, after that depend on performance.
