It's trash not thrash btw. This thread is so cringey with all these high finance bros and their "prestige".

Its me again, tbh just wanna beef up my portfolio for when I grad. Not looking into IB at BB or anything cos my major kinda sucks and my prior experience isn't that good to compete against biz finance kids, just hoping for a comfortable finance job upon grad, so any advice is appreciated

No point wasting 6 months at SGX. Find out what you're interested and spend that 6 months doing an internship that is related so you can easily find a job when you graduate.

I agree. For example, if you're interested in IB, you would rather take an IB internship at somewhere crappy like CIMB instead of doing retail banking at Citi for example. Go for the role rather than the company prestige - it will help you get further once you graduate.

IB now a days too competitive especially for non biz kids like op, any random boutique or non bulge bank like CIMB still have tons of biz finance kids applying.

6mths is a big sacrifice and opp cost. Dont waste it at a crap place like SGX. Do a summer or winter internship if you really want to beef up ur resume.

Not very familiar with the benchmark nowadays. You are in which year, have done what type of internships, and are looking for what types of roles?

Have always felt that six months type of internships are abit overkill, even for corp finance/ research. Even more overkill or bank ops, sgx or others. But if you did not have any other internships and had minimal success with interviews, and think a 6 month stint could do you good, then go for it.

I don't think people need a six month internship to get a job. But 6 month is not a very long time if you look back after working for a few years. If you can learn and articulate what you learn in that six months, it will be helpful for interviews and also some self discovery. As an interviewer, I would be keen to know what you have exactly learnt and done in the 6 months. So it being a part of resume is helpful, although I would interview ppl who only had summer/winter/part time internships too.

Logic, related knowledge, learning attitude, honesty, self awareness, personality are what gets you the job in interviews. Internships could help to show that, but the length or actual skills learnt during it matter less
