That's probably his role. I don't think fresh grads would bother (not inclined) to make the distinction between being a PM and being part of portfolio management team (or portfolio management analyst) when describing themselves. :P
Some of the product strategy or allocator for multi asset team in some roles will also call themselves portfolio managers in some firms.

6 month internships are never worth it unless it's a front office role at BB banks, tier 1 AM firms (blackrock, capgroup) or PE/HF (kkr, point72).
Dont bother with anything else. SGX is trash.
