Assistant PM type of roles actually do exist in some places for fresh graduates or relatively few YOE. Basically looking at allocation, performance and risk metrics, and the admin part of portfolio management (including trading & execution and others). In theory, they can call themselves PMs too. But obviously, different PMs have different discretion.

That's probably his role. I don't think fresh grads would bother (not inclined) to make the distinction between being a PM and being part of portfolio management team (or portfolio management analyst) when describing themselves. :P

Some of the product strategy or allocator for multi asset team in some roles will also call themselves portfolio managers in some firms.

Help la, what's with all these jokesters thinking they could be a PM as a fresh grad. They think that just because they manage a 10k or 100k portfolio means that they can go become a PM at a big firm already. Wake up your idea la

6 month internships are never worth it unless it's a front office role at BB banks, tier 1 AM firms (blackrock, capgroup) or PE/HF (kkr, point72).

Dont bother with anything else. SGX is trash.
