Yeah, it seems to be the case.

Anyway, at your BB IB what is the % of FO new hires from ivies/oxbridge? Does it help to have a degree from there?

Btw, how's the hours like? Is it similar to the US where you have to pull 80-100hours with a couple of all nighters here and there?

Business sense is inborn.

Education does more damage than concussion to business sense.

Its not just ivies/oxbridge, but also Insead and certain Chinese and Indian universities. Probably about 90%, even though casualty rate is probablya round 40% after a few years. So, if you don't have a top degree, you have to be extraordinarily lucky to get in. But getting in is not enough. Everyone around you is smart and driven.

Hours depend on department. Worst is corporate finance, equity research. Easiest is asset management.

Being the primary author for a new research product doesn't mean anything if the product is a flop. Being the #1 rated Asian analyst in a sector does because it means your research is recognized and valued by fund managers.

The way I see it is either your father was one of the big swinging dicks at the BB or have been super lucky to get into FO with your 'last' class honors at a local uni. By the way, your post is off topic. We're not here to debate elite scholars or how they are being spoonfed by the gahmen. We're here to discuss the value of an ivy league degree.

PS: I am neither a scholar or a recipient of any scholarship/aid from the gahmen.

the threadstarter already have all the preconditions, to get in FO, wiith 1st class, Master and he is already in the industry, if he cant get into FO with all these, nothing, not even ivy league or oxbridge will get him in, esp when it is not a finance degree.

hi people,

sorry to intrude this thread, but i am pretty much confused over the future course of my study now that i started some work in a bank after ORD-ing. Currently, i hold a place in Imperial College London' EE engineering, which would require 4 years to complete and I would end up with a masters degree with almost 300k education debt. Currently, my friends who are there rattle on about how hard is it to get a graduate job in the UK with the new sanctions on international visas as the economy in UK is declining.

Now, I am currently applying for an SMU double degree in Biz and Econs, which would cost substantially lesser than my overseas degree. I have no doubt that the competitiveness of the school viewed by many as undesirable would be actually be beneficial in working life, especially the cut-throat industry of investment banking and stuff.

So heres the question guys, get into the overseas school and hope to break in banking with an engineering degree (with 300k debt) or stay in SMU and work hard and hope to get a good job in finance in the future? (with no debt)

thanks in advance people.
