Default Govt Job (salary cap, promotion)

I'm kinda confused, wld be grateful if you guys had any thoughts on my "predicament"

I'm MX12 and my current salary is ~8% away from my salary cap. I just joined in late 2010.

Would it be correct to say that the earliest I will be promoted is in 2014?

If so, would my increments be kept artificially low in the next 2 years so that I won't bust my cap?

The thing is a 4% increment (which is kinda low right?) year on year over the next 2 years means I will bust my cap

Or, would it be possible for me to get "normal" increments in line with my performance, and for my employer to raise my salary cap?

the short answer is that there are cases where civil servants hit their salary caps. stay or go is up to you.

Hi Heath,

Help me understand you, why do you think the earliest u'll be promoted in 2014?

My understanding is that IF there are vacancies at the higher level and your performance is good, you'll be promoted.

cheers
