In short, what these quotations tell us is that there is only one ultimate purpose for money — and that is to spend it! And spending money is made more enjoyable by splurging on oneself occasionally.
It's so true, i totally agree with you.
Life is short, enjoy while you can.

Think, why you want to save so much money for, what's your goal?

I agree.By any measure, both of u are doing well. But we do not seek affirmation from others,it is by ourselves that we compare with. There will always be people who does much better financially than us...no doubt about that. A billionaire is at least 1000 times richer than a millionaire so will he feel downcast and discouraged?Perhaps...perhaps not.

Thanks for the assurance. How can we prepare for retirement? We don't have any investments because we don't know how to invest. Heard a lot of horror stories from people who lose money in stocks and properties. Luckily we didn't invest and our savings in our cpf and cash savings grew.

It is very sad to know that you don't know how to invest. In this investment age, you must learn it. The meaning of our life is to learn and educate ourselves every single day. I strongly suggest you to have a positive outlook and not think negatively about the horror stories. Even though rose has thorns it is still a beautiful flower. Four months back I was walking in the streets and I saw a merc. What to do? I so poor la. I cannot afford it la. These thoughts kept flowing into my head. And then I became thirsty. What to do la. Human la. Walk in sunshine .. sweat sweat .. die la but no la I drink water la . Then I saw this beautiful girl and my heart started pounding. She was the one for me. What to do la. I single la .. pressure la.. I need to get married have kids la.. And what I do next? You are right, I go and pluck the rose that I see next to me. It had thorns but I still tried. I knew if I didn't try the battle was already lost. I tried. and what happens next. ok la. I tell you. the girl said she is orredy engaged la. my heart broken to pieces. I became sad la. I started drinking a lot of water.

Moral of the story? Beautiful girls are usually engaged or married. You need to become their BF in college or Uni.

Feeling like I'm in a mid life crisis here.

37 this year. Wife 34, not working with a 2 year old kid.
Earning 230k per annum. Total expenses @ 9k per month on average, with mini trips each year.
Savings of 200k in cash. CPF probably around 150k only.

I think we're saving around 80k per year.

Owns a property returning 1k net gains each month. If minus off the loan net value will be around 230k.

how are we doing?
