Stock investments. Some stocks have appreciated by more than 100 folds. They are not dividend-paying stocks as presumed by some bloggers. By investments, I mean buy and hold not trading. Houses are bought as a diversification to stocks, after disposing some of them. Don't think I make any paper profits out of houses after accounting for mortgage interest, taxes, insurance and maintenance.

100 folds?! Osim is only about 10+ times off the top of my head. Which stocks achieved 100x?

No need to feel poor. If u have health, love and respect in your family, you are rich. These are things that $$$ cannot buy

Bought AAPL and GMCR. Loved Apple products and drank a lot of coffee. Didn't buy MNST nor MSFT. Also, have AKAM, Yahoo! and Inktomi (bought over by Yahoo!), lost a bundle. As an IT guy, familiar with IT firms only. Could well be dumb luck that some of the purchases appreciated so much, compensating for those disastrous purchases.

Btw, didn't own any landed properties, staying in a small condo. Just feel uncomfortable in spending so much monies in "roof over our heads". Thought stocks is a better investment.

We did gain $800K from sale of 1 property a few years ago, otherwise all of the value of the financial investments was through earning, saving and investing.
$1.5m in cpf, ur rather dumb.

You the dumb one. CPF makes 4-5% interest and there are ways to utilize it.

When I said $1.5m in CPF, it doesn't mean that it's with the CPF board. The special account is maxed out to get the 4% yield, but about 80% of the ordinary account is in a unit trust that yields 1% of NAV per quarter or about 4% per year and gives me equities upside in the long term. Return on my ordinary account has been roughly 6-7% for the past 10 years. I don't use CPF for property because I can borrow USD or SGD for about 0.8-0.9% currently. Interest and dividends on my CPF alone give me about $3,500 per month or about $40-50K per year. I consider myself a conservative but steady investor.
