And this is precisely why many people say civil servants are overpaid.

I lost a Senior Manager to the civil service. She was willing to be a Manager there as they were paying some 30% more, for a much narrower job scope.

CS are not known to pay better than private sector. They probably have the media salary figure across all industries and will peg salary accordingly. In your case, your company was probably under paying her for which she made a choice to leave for the CS.

Hi all, i went for the interview this morning. The HR mentioned that because i am asking around 7k and fall under MX11, therefore need another interview.

Is it common for all that join mx11?

it simply means u r underpaying ur staff. the salary for civil servants do not come out of thin air. they r pegged to the private sector.
the onli ppl who would say civil servants are overpaid are either SME bosses who are always trying their best to squeeze their employees dry... or those jealous type who r not qualified to be considered for civil services.

hi, i just joined the CS on the home team specialist scheme and the rank given was hts13 (the lowest). other new hires were hired at hts12, the next rank. All of us got around the same pay. what i would like to ask is if i get promoted to hts12, which is probably in a year or so, will i get a pay increment? considering that those at hts12 will be stuck at tt rank for a few years, did i get an advantage in terms of pay rise due to me starting off at a lower rank?

I guess that's because civil service has a strong internal development system for their officers.
