Having been in a ministry myself, the stress level is actually higher than you think - you are directly serving the minister's politican's demand (through the PS and DSs) and my colleagues are constantly on the lookout to respond to e-mails/request even in the weekends/evenings.
care to share which ministry u r referring to and a rough guide on the job scope? how do you access emails when you are out of office?

All ministries are similar to each other and are considered CS, and the job scopes are very similar as well..common knowledge that all big enough organisations, whether private or public, would have VPN access

wondering how hr determines the grade to offer to candidates. they can't be offering grade based on years of experience per se? how about the candidate's current position, current salary?

would it be better to be appointed at a lower grade?

just a word of caution for those who are switching into Ministries for better work-life balance, it may always be the case. VPN access is the bane of many civil servants. Guess why I'm still here at this hour?

When there's work to be done, you have to get it done. That said, some agencies have it better. For those more high-powered, central ministries, you really have to pull your weight along.

It is not a matter of whether you want to join, it is whether they want to hire private degree holders or not.
