You did not choose the job. The job chose you. You were destined to start work in a high paying job as a Gigolo.

Earn $140k pa in total
Expenses $110k pa
Savings $30k pa

Assets
4 room flat, renovated (paid up), worth $400k
Cash
CPF savings

We plan to retire in 15 years time in our current home.

We will use our cash savings to fund our retirement from age 60 to 65, $4,000 pm.

We will also buy annuities. We get $1,000 pm.
Our children will give us $1,000 pm ($500 pm from each of them).
Passive income from age 65 onwards $5,800 pm.

If you are above 55 and jobless, don't worry. Assuming your children are all grown up and independent, you can just retire. Neighbouring cities are possible places to retire.

Average monthly disposable salary (SGD)

Chiang Mai 534
Koh Samui 615
Phuket 786
Bangkok 1003
Hanoi 370
Ho Chi Minh 495
Kuching 542
Malacca 610
Kota Kinabalu 901
Johor Bahru 902
Penang 1133
Kuala Lumpur 1468
Siem Reap 187
Phnom Penh 399

These are the average monthly disposable salaries of people living in these cities in SGD.
This means if you have passive income of these amounts, you and wife can retire in these places.

If you are just the average worker, you don't need millions of dollars in your bank account or investments to retire.

What you need is a paid up HDB flat. Just rent it for $2000 pm and convert to the local currencies. Choose any city you like. You can even retire in a few cities and explore the different beautiful culture in each city.

Enjoy your retirement! Don't worry. Be happy.

Thanks for the useful reference numbers but where is your source and does it really cover everything? Accommodation is not covered right?

Currently we own a car. Convenient for us to move around. We also support financially our retired parents (both sides) as we are filial children, that's why our expenses are high.
