You have not experienced retirement, so you don't know how wonderful it is. Sure, you enjoy getting scolded by your boss whenever you don't perform. I suppose some people like to be scolded. LOL.

I am the boss. Telling off my staff. So don't be presumptuous. LOL

I look out of my window today... A bit dusty, cannot see clearly. Maybe this is a sign of my future.

True. You could be jobless soon. Better prepare for retrenchment. Learn to drive a car if you don't know how to drive. You can become a taxi drive or uber driver if you are jobless. Be humble.

As I looked out my window today, I saw heavy rain. Looks like the storm is coming.

Except for branded goods you're no where near the level to buy any of the items you mentioned easily (Bungalow, Super Car, Luxury Boat). So why even mention them?

Families who can afford these toys own several of them, if you think you are playing at their level think again.

I'm contented today to retire because I've achieved these for my retirement:

1. A fully paid 3 bedroom luxury condo in a good district.
2. A fully paid small car, sufficient for my small family.
3. Passive income, more than enough for my family.
4. Enough wealth to leave behind for my children, not too much though.

I value my time a lot more today. I don't need to work for that extra dollar at the expense of my time. I value my time to do what ever I want - relaxing at home, reading, jogging, exercising in the condo gym, swimming in the condo swimming pool, watching movies, travelling overseas during non peak seasons, volunteering at charities, etc.

Each and every day, we get older. We move closer to our moment of death. While I'm still not so old and healthy, I want to make the best of my precious time.

I don't need to work so hard so as to afford a bungalow. I don't need a bungalow to be happy.

I don't need to work so hard so as to afford a $1m sports car. I don't need a sports car to be happy.

I don't need to work so hard so as to afford a luxury boat. I don't need a luxury boat to be happy.

I don't need to work so hard so as to afford luxury branded goods. I don't need luxury branded goods to be happy.

What I need is my free time. My free time is very expensive. Time is precious to me. Why should I slave away, sacrificing my free time to work for others for that extra dollar that I don't need. I want my free time to pursue my own interests.

If you are above 55 and jobless, don't worry. Assuming your children are all grown up and independent, you can just retire. Neighbouring cities are possible places to retire.

Average monthly disposable salary (SGD)

Chiang Mai 534
Koh Samui 615
Phuket 786
Bangkok 1003
Hanoi 370
Ho Chi Minh 495
Kuching 542
Malacca 610
Kota Kinabalu 901
Johor Bahru 902
Penang 1133
Kuala Lumpur 1468
Siem Reap 187
Phnom Penh 399

These are the average monthly disposable salaries of people living in these cities in SGD.
This means if you have passive income of these amounts, you and wife can retire in these places.

If you are just the average worker, you don't need millions of dollars in your bank account or investments to retire.

What you need is a paid up HDB flat. Just rent it for $2000 pm and convert to the local currencies. Choose any city you like. You can even retire in a few cities and explore the different beautiful culture in each city.

Enjoy your retirement! Don't worry. Be happy.

I feel very blessed to have chosen a high paying job in my youth. Now I am not jobless, the job is me-less.
